We are excited to announce two opportunities for faculty development through our Kern Scholars Program. Each year we support one Kern Scholar in each of the following programs:

Master of Health Professions Education

We are looking for faculty interested in pursuing a Master of Health Professions Education through the New York University Langone’s Department of Medicine.

This degree, aimed at people who want to take a leadership role in medical education in curriculum development and assessment, engage in medical education scholarship, and/or be prepared to run training programs in UME, GME or CME, is competency-based and delivered in 4 periods per year during which students select (with a mentor’s guidance) learning activities that align with their particular career goals and interests, including two face-to-face, three-week intensives in New York City. The remaining curriculum is delivered in highly interactive, distance learning, using a combination of problem-based learning and other interactive formats.

A mentored thesis is required for this degree. Additional information on the program is available by visiting the MHPE website or contact mhpe@nyulangone.org for more information regarding the program and application.

Please note all final application materials for this Kern Scholars opportunity are due December 16, 2022 with the New York University Langone’s Department of Medicine. Classes begin in July 2023.

For qualified faculty, the Kern Institute will support annual tuition. We will work to help candidates negotiate and support the estimated 0.2FTE protected time needed to complete the program. You will be asked to fund your travel and lodging for the face-to-face sessions. Please forward your letter of interest (addressing your career goals), CV, and a letter of support from your department chair to Jeffery D. Fritz by December 1st, 2022 for selection.
