City Hall in Two Rivers is working hard to keep government lean and cut expenses where we can. Every dollar matters right now, and just like families across Wisconsin, we’re finding smart ways to stretch our dollars further.
Take our Police Department and City Hall, for example. Much of the office furniture dated back to the early 1990s. Instead of spending tens of thousands on replacements, we secured gently used office furniture from a local bank at no cost to the City—a $70,000 savings that gives both the Police Department and City Hall a more professional look.
Public safety operations have also received a boost at no cost to taxpayers. The Wisconsin State Patrol awarded the Two Rivers Police Department a new breathalyzer unit for roadside alcohol testing, improving roadway safety without adding to the budget. And just last week, our Fire Department secured a $92,000 federal grant to replace a 24-year-old exhaust system at the Station—another big win for safety and efficiency.
At the same time, City Hall is tackling rising insurance costs. Premiums have climbed more than 8% per year over the past five years. For the first time in decades, we are actively shopping around multiple carriers for liability and workers’ compensation coverage, with savings expected to show up in next year’s budget.
Finally, the City is rebidding its fuel supply contract—a contract that hasn’t been out to bid in 20 years. Covering about 32,000 gallons a year for the City fleet, this step ensures we’ll secure the most competitive price while guaranteeing 24/7 access for public safety operations.
From furniture upgrades, to new safety tools, to lower insurance premiums and fuel savings—Two Rivers is committed to running a lean, efficient organization while putting people first.
