Congratulations, Antonia!
YVCHR's Volunteer of the Month
|
|
Antonia has been a wonderful new addition to the YVC family and has quickly made a positive impact both in her YVC school club and at YVCHR service projects!
When asked about her experience with YVCHR and what she loves most about volunteering, Antonia said, 'I love being engaged in community activities and events. I enjoy working with others, and I want other citizens of Hampton Roads to know how much I care about them.'
Antonia's favorite YVCHR project has been the Autism Society Respite Night at Sky Zone, as she loved "being able to get to know her buddy and had a blast just jumping around and talking!"
When asked what advice she would give to new volunteers, Antonia suggests that you "Be involved but don’t overwork yourself!" She wants to remind all volunteers of the importance of "taking a break from time to time" to recharge that energy.
Antonia is a junior at Warwick High School, where she is president of HOSA - the Future Health Professionals chapter at her school. After high school, she plans to attend a university where she can obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience and Biology with hopes of eventually becoming a pediatric neurologist.

Our 11th-annual event was a HUGE success! We are beyond grateful to the 16 teams that worked so hard to showcase their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills through a competitive STEM challenge benefiting the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank. This year's collective donation, which exceeded our goal, was 22,884 pounds of food! That's the the equivalent of 19,070 meals for local individuals and families facing food insecurity.
You can see all of the impressive CANstructures from this year's event here. Want to watch the entire awards ceremony? Click here!

Did you know that your online shopping purchases can help fund YVCHR programs? Consider designating Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads as your charity of choice!
-
AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases on Amazon to YVCHR.
-
Simply shop at smile.amazon.com. The donation will be made at no extra cost to you.
- Though 0.5% is not a large donation and it isn't intended to replace your regular charitable contributions, AmazonSmile is still a great way to maximize your impact! It all adds up!

High school students and adults who would like to help local schools and nonprofit organizations (like YVCHR!), please consider signing up to volunteer at Community Knights Bingo. Proceeds from bingo are donated back into the Hampton Roads community!
NOTE: Community Knights will sign volunteer logs for those who need evidence of service hours. This is not a YVCHR-facilitated activity, so a team leader from YVCHR will not be on-site.
