Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
While planning for a traditional commencement celebration this fall, WKU conferred degrees and certificates to more than 2,600 spring graduates in a virtual ceremony Friday afternoon.

“The Class of 2020 will hold a special place in our hearts and in our history, having overcome the tremendous challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. But that’s what Hilltoppers do. We overcome. We persevere. And we do it together as a Family,” President Timothy C. Caboni said. “We now look forward to following you on the next leg of your journey and to seeing you back on the Hill this fall as we hold a special commencement celebration as unique as your final semester.” More: Commencement website ; #WKUGrad photos

#WKUGrad: Evans ready to address needs in mental health field
WKU’s conferral of degrees means the successful completion of requirements for all graduates. This action also means the addition of Darrian Evans, an African American woman, to the mental health counseling field - now ready and equipped to address mental health stigmas in all populations, and especially those in underrepresented communities. Evans, from Louisville, explained her research while in WKU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program taught her, “The number of therapists of color serving as psychologists, counselors and social workers as a whole is less than the number of clients of color that all three fields serve. In other words, there aren't enough therapists of color to serve the needs of underrepresented populations.”
Spotlight: Connie McNeil
Connie McNeil is graduating this week, earning a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in social and behavioral science. She cited the student support among the highlights of her WKU experiences, stating that her “professors have been wonderful to work with and very accommodating to helping this non-traditional student adapt to online courses.”
Student thankful for hands-on learning experiences at WKU
Like many undergraduates at WKU, Ryan St. Clair’s undergraduate experience involved an array of different part-time jobs, internships and extracurricular activities. But Ryan says one common theme can describe each and every one of his activities here: hands-on experience, which has been instrumental in helping him find a successful career path post-graduation.

View from the Hill
Finals week is wrapping up at WKU, two months after the COVID-19 pandemic prompted all learning to take place online. Perhaps nowhere was that more of a challenge than for nursing students. But they pressed on and in this week’s View from the Hill , WKU’s Amy Bingham shows us how they celebrated with a virtual recognition ceremony.
