Happenings!!

Art with a Heart staff traded their office space for a greenhouse to dig deep, unwind, and grow together during a retreat at Radebaugh Florist! The day was all about connection, fun, and rejuvenation, and the team came back refreshed, re-rooted, and ready to keep the art blossoming across Baltimore and beyond this season!

Community Art and Service

This month the Community Art and Service team installed "The Way We See" mosaic mural at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Over 200 community members participated in the creation of this intricate glass and ceramic project. The team also participated in Baltimore’s October 7th community commemoration with Baltimore Israel Coalition and The Associated, for the launch of a new memorial garden project. Art with a Heart will work with community members to create 300 handmade ceramic poppies that will be staked into the ground in an immersive and moving installation. And back in the office, volunteers and staff added the last mosaic pieces to the "Mother Earth" sculpture. Community members eagerly await the mid-November installation in Randallstown. Stay tuned for more information about the dedication event! Lastly, the team is preparing for a large-scale mural in Hampden sponsored by Councilwoman Odette Ramos. Part of community engagement includes a design contest. Do you live, work, or visit Hampden frequently? If so, we want you to submit your design! Check out Art with a Heart's social media pages for more information.

Programming

As October comes to a close, creativity is flourishing across Art with a Heart programs. Students of all ages are exploring the foundations of art through colorful abstract portraits, festive pumpkin paintings, and seasonal apple-inspired artwork. At City Springs Elementary/Middle School, students are creating apple-themed pieces that will be displayed at The Charmery’s annual Apple Festival, bringing their creativity beyond the classroom and into the community. From autumn-inspired projects to experimenting with color, shape, and self-expression, Art with a Heart students are celebrating the season one artwork at a time!

Art of Leadership

Art with a Heart's Art of Leadership students participated in a bus tour of Baltimore City and explored how race and class have shaped the city’s history and continue to influence present-day issues and disparities. The tour traveled through diverse communities including: Roland Park, Park Heights, Reservoir Hill, Sandtown-Winchester, and the Inner Harbor. Through their travels, students learned about each community’s history, challenges, and successes. They also viewed Art with a Heart's community art installations and discovered how the organization works with people of all ages to create art that reflects and strengthens neighborhoods throughout the city.

HeARTworks/HeARTwares

This month, HeARTworks welcomed interns from City Neighbors High School and the Baltimore Lab School who are ready to jump into creative action. These interns will join the efforts of seven new apprentices who will be continuing their workforce learning and their

art-making skills. One of the many internship projects is a new mural in the workshop space that has been designed and will be completed by the students.

Also in October, the HeARTwares team hosted another successful Studio Session: Mimosas and Mosaics! Participants gathered to create their own mosaic house numbers, adding a colorful, personal touch to their homes while enjoying a morning of creativity and connection. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Mark your calendars for the upcoming HeARTwares Holiday Open House on December 5th from 12pm to 3pm. The HeARTwares students have been busy glazing ceramic beads for the store’s new charm bar. We can't wait for guests to mix and match beads and pendants to create their own unique accessories! Hope to see you on December 5th!!
