This is Why We Do It

Recently, we helped a mother who has long experienced financial hardship and housing instability give her son a birthday for the first time. The joy and hope it provided both mother and son are quite literally why we do it! Here's what the mother had to say:

"Thank you so very much! This was a dream come true! You provided extreme happiness to this young boy. He was so surprised when he got home from school... He couldn't believe it. He said, 'Mama, mama look at all the gifts and all the cupcakes. It's for my birthday. I never had a birthday party before. Now I can... I'm so happy."

With your continued support, we are committed to bringing hope and joy to the community we serve through the gift of a birthday celebration.

Community Support and Recognition

Nikita Sandhu

After volunteering with Birthday Dreams through her workplace, Nikita Sandhu was inspired to bring that same spirit of giving to her child’s birthday celebration. She generously donated all the supplies for the activity, and with over 50 guests in attendance, partygoers came together to create 100 goody bags for children experiencing homelessness—turning a special day into something truly meaningful for others. Thank you for making a difference and helping us celebrate kids in need.

Alaska Airlines

Thank you to Andrea Sanders and the Talent Acquisition team at Alaska Airlines for coming together in support of Birthday Dreams. After hearing about our mission from a recruit, Andrea connected with us to plan a volunteer event. The team generously donated the supplies to create 100 goody bags and crafted more than 225 birthday party hats. Thank you for helping us bring joy to children experiencing homelessness.

PitchBook

Celebrating 29 years, PitchBook included Birthday Dreams in their Global Week of Service. During the event, their team created more than 120 birthday party hats to help us celebrate children experiencing homelessness. Thank you to Jessie Triemstra for inviting us to be part of this special week—we are excited for this new partnership and what’s ahead.

Girl Scouts Troop 43450

Thank you to Girl Scouts Troop 43450 for spending part of their meeting giving back to Birthday Dreams. The troop created over 70 birthday party hats, all while genuinely enjoying time together chatting, hanging out, and thinking about the children who would one day wear them. Their reflections said it best, “Every kid deserves a birthday” and “It felt good to help out.” These young leaders are already making a meaningful difference, showing what it truly means to lead with kindness and service. We are grateful for the time, heart, and care they shared with us.

HomeAid

Thank you to Keegan Monson and BreAnn Colvin for leading a group at Shea Homes in support of Birthday Dreams on behalf of HomeAid Puget Sound. Their team created over 125 birthday party hats, generously purchasing all of the supplies needed for the project. Their craft expertise was evident in every detail, and the care and thought they put into each hat truly stood out. In fact, their work was shared at other community events as an example of what’s possible. We are grateful for their leadership, creativity, and the heart they brought to this project.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

During a meeting to celebrate the birthday of the women’s organization, the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more than 200 birthday party hats were made in support of Birthday Dreams. Established on March 17, 1842, the Relief Society is one of the largest women’s organizations in the world, with over 7 million members across 188 countries. Guided by the motto, “Charity never faileth” (1 Corinthians 13:8), their commitment to service continues to make a difference. Birthday Dreams is grateful to have been part of this special celebration.

Overlake Christian Church

Xandy Coddington from Student Ministries at Overlake Christian Church organized a service learning day for middle and high school students. Supplies were donated to assemble 100 goody bags, and students created over 100 birthday party hats, helping make birthdays extra special. Sincere thanks for the time, care, and generosity shown in support of Birthday Dreams.

JFrog

While searching for ways for her organization to give back to the community, Amit Shapiro, Operations Coordinator at JFrog, discovered Birthday Dreams online. After a conversation about volunteer opportunities and successful partnerships with other local organizations, she scheduled a service event where Friendship Bracelet Kits were created for children in need, along with a generous donation of supplies. We appreciate being chosen and the thoughtful work that went into the project.

Seattle Catholic Day of Service

For the fourth year in a row, Birthday Dreams was honored to be selected as a beneficiary of the Seattle Catholic Day of Service. Volunteers from Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. George Parish came together to create birthday party hats for children we serve. We are grateful to Karen Fitton for her continued support in coordinating supplies for each church and helping make this effort possible. We appreciate the time and care that went into supporting Birthday Dreams and the children we celebrate.

Gates Foundation

Bobbie Laughlin Martin, Senior Assistant, organized this volunteer event in support of Birthday Dreams. The team generously purchased all supplies and spent two hours creating both goody bags and birthday party hats for the children we serve. We are grateful for the time, care, and continued partnership with the Gates Foundation, and appreciate the thoughtful work that went into making this event a success.

Stroum Jewish Community Center – Adult Group

Leslie Rubenstein, Adult Programs Coordinator and Endless Opportunities Coordinator at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Mercer Island, organized a wonderful service event for Birthday Dreams. During this hour-and-a-half volunteer session, the senior group created over 150 goody bags and a ton of masks for our “Pin the Candle on the Cupcake” game. This group hosts monthly service events, and we are thrilled with this new partnership. We are grateful for their enthusiasm and the meaningful contribution they made to support the children we serve.

Interfaith Women’s Conference

At the Fourth Annual Interfaith Women’s Conference, presented by Associated Ministries of Tacoma-Pierce County, women of all faiths and goodwill from across the Puget Sound region gathered in community and connection. Birthday Dreams was honored to be one of three service opportunities offered during the event. Volunteers decorated birthday party hats and decorated and assembled cardstock cupcakes for our Pin the Candle on the Cupcake game—adding a fun and creative touch to the celebrations we provide. We are grateful to Melody Lundquist, a member of the planning committee, for inviting Birthday Dreams to be part of this special event. We appreciate being included and the thoughtful effort that went into this project.

Junior League of Seattle

With the thoughtful leadership of Tamara Jacobs and Gretchen Wingard, volunteers from the Junior League of Seattle continue to bring creativity and enthusiasm to Birthday Dreams. During their latest project, the team crafted a wonderful collection of birthday party hats that will add a special touch to upcoming celebrations. Their continued involvement means so much to our mission, and we’re grateful to have them alongside us.

High School Birthday Dreams Clubs

One of the most inspiring ways Birthday Dreams is growing is through student-led clubs in our local schools. These students are not only giving their time, but they are also building a culture of compassion and service in their communities. From crafting decorations to leading service projects, these students are helping ensure that more children feel seen, valued, and celebrated on their birthday. And they’re just getting started.

Liberty High School

Liberty High School launched its Birthday Dreams Club in October 2024 and has already made an incredible impact. A club spokesperson said, “Our goal is to support underserved children in our community while raising awareness for Birthday Dreams. We love that we’re able to make a difference while bringing more students into something meaningful.” Club members create goody bags, decorate party supplies, and organize donation drives - everything from candy collections to birthday essentials - all of which go directly into celebrations for children in need. The spokesperson said, “What we value most is being part of something meaningful while having fun with our peers and knowing we’re spreading joy to others in our community.”

Even more exciting, the Liberty team is helping expand this effort by supporting other schools interested in starting their own Birthday Dreams club.

Woodinville High School

At Woodinville High School, student leaders are turning small acts into lasting impact. Founded by students passionate about giving back, the Woodinville Birthday Dreams Club has brought more awareness, and more helping hands, to Birthday Dreams. Members have created party hats, decorated candles, prepared goody bag supplies, and continue to find new ways to contribute. For Maddie Kang, the experience has been especially meaningful. Maddie said, “Even little actions, like baking a cake, can create memories that kids will cherish forever. The children's smiles showed me that even little acts can go a long way.”

At Birthday Dreams, we believe that every child deserves to feel special on their birthday. We work tirelessly to bring hope, joy, and a sense of self-worth to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. We understand that a birthday party may seem like a small gesture, but to these children, it means the world.

Our parties are more than just cake and presents. They are a celebration of life, of resilience, and of the human spirit. They are a reminder that no child is forgotten, and that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and loved.

Thank you to all our donors and volunteers who bring so much joy to the children we serve.
