Bottom Line Up Front:
Though there have been numerous cases of right wing extremist activity in the different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, TRAC Senior Analyst, Daniel Lebowitz reports on what is believed to be the first instance of an active duty soldier attempting to facilitate an attack on his own unit by leaking sensitive information to a neo-Nazi extremist group. The revelations arrive only weeks after a U.S. Air Force security officer, Steven Carrillo killed a Federal security officer and sheriff deputies in pursuing so-called 'Boogaloo' goals. In both cases, the perpetrators' primary goal was to cause wider societal damage, whether it be instigating a new war in the Middle East or igniting a civil war in the United States. Extremist ideologues such as David Myatt, the core leader of the satanic/Neo-Nazi Order of the Nine Angles (O9A/ONA) have long advocated the recruitment of U.S. soldiers, as radicalized veterans or active duty personnel can turn their military training back on the nation they profess to serve. Timothy McVeigh, Gulf-War veteran and mastermind behind the OKC bombing in 1995 is the deadliest example of such ideology. According to the filed criminal complaint, Ethan Melzer joined the Order of the 9 Angles (O9A/ONA) after he enlisted, illustrating that soldiers are exposed to radicalization pathways while serving.
TRAC dives deep into the O9A and their connections to Nationalists Socialists groups.

TRAC INCIDENT REPORT: Hayy'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Tanzim Huras al-Din (Guardians of Religion / AQ In Syria) Clash; Closing The Road Between Idlib and Kafr Takhareem, Syria
TRAC's London Analyst, Sophia Badawy has been monitoring escalating tensions between Hayy'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Tanzim Huras al-Din over the past week. After the formation of Tanzim Huras al-Din led Stand Firm Operations Room, Hayy'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has started a series of arrests on its former commanders who became part of Tanzim Huras al-Din's Stand Firm Operations Room
.
Now, there is growing speculation that Tanzim Huras al-Din has already managed to take control of HTS' Central Prison, Al-Kansarwah factory, and that the group is preparing to storm the administrative capital of HTS in Idlib, Syria. If found to be true, Abu Mohammad al-Joulani's was right to fear that Tanzim Huras al-Din was a threat to his seat of HTS power.

al-Andalus Media / al-Qaeda In The Islamic Maghrib (AQIM): Media Official, Sheikh Abu Abd al-Ilah, Confirms The Death of Abu Musab Abd al-Wadud (Abd al-Malek Droukdel)
|
The ramifications on
al-Qaeda in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM)
of the leadership decapitation is yet to be felt. To be fair AQIM's franchise in Mali, Jama'a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM) has been much more successful than AQIM has been in recent years and Droukdel's death is likely not going to effect JNIM's operations. AQIM isn't known to eulogize this quickly after a leader's death; however, the death of the two leaders before Droukdel (Abu Iyad Tunsi and Yahya Abu al-Hamman) were both eulogized within five days of the announcement. In early June 2020, France announced they had killed Sheikh Abu Musab Abdul Wadud, aka Abdelmalek Droukdel, as well as killed Toufik Chaib and captured another unidentified high-ranking AQIM member in Talhandak, Mali, both of whom there was no mention on the video.

Five years after opening fire inside

The collection of messages and posters sent to commemorate the incideent and curated by TRAC Analyst, Cat Cooper is highly reminiscent of the birthday messages sent to Ted Kaczynski in late May 2020. TRAC INCIDENT REPORT: Suspected Islamic State West Africa (ISWA) Armed Assault & Theft of 480 Cattle on Herders in Moduri, Kelewa and Ngudori Villages of Magumeri District, Borno, Nigeria
|
TRAC has been following a new trend of Islamic State West Africa (ISWA / ISWAP) systematically targeting herdsmen, likely Fulani Herdsmen, to commandeer livestock. Between the attacks in the Magumeri and Gubio Districts, ISWA is now in possession of at least 4,580 livestock. It is unclear how ISWA fighters are finding time to tend to these herds or where they are keeping such a large number of livestock. To put this question into perspective, the average California large dairy farm typically keeps 1,250 cows and it takes 1.5- 2 acres of grass to feed a single cow for a year. It should be noted that farmers and herdsmen are constantly fighting each other over grazing rights in the arid landscape of northern Nigeria.
