Superintendent of Schools, Hermosa Beach City School District

We invite you to participate in the 2026 HBCSD LCAP/Strategic Planning Input Survey, which is open through Friday, May 8. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts on what’s working well and where we can improve. The survey is structured around our core goals, Community, Excellence, and Inclusion, and will directly influence the district’s direction for the next three years. Every response and every comment is read and considered in our planning process.

We'd like to ask each parent or guardian to complete one survey for each child enrolled in our district. The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes, and all responses are anonymous. Please click here to take the survey.

Hermosa View School Principal News

Dear View Families,

This week, our kindergartners brought their Wit and Wisdom Farm Unit to life and got to interact with a variety of farm animals at View. We also had the privilege of having the writers of Wit and Wisdom join myself and our leadership team through walkthroughs of our K-1 classes in action with the curriculum. I’ve been so impressed with the work they are producing, not just at View but with our students through 8th grade. Our next Principal Advisory Council will be meeting Wednesday, April 29th at 10:30am.

In collaboration with Vista, we are looking forward to hosting our first Science Night next Wednesday at 6pm.

Our next fire drill will be on Thursday. Please reinforce being an active listener during drills to ensure all directions are heard.

Hermosa View Career Day Volunteers Needed!

We’re looking for parent volunteers to host interactive career booths for our Career Fair on Tuesday, May 26 from 9 - 11 AM. We would love for you to share your job, inspire students, and lead a simple hands-on activity! Our school will provide tables and chairs. Sign up here or reach out to our school counselor at sokuda@hbcsd.org with any questions!

Finally, in recognition of Administrative Professionals’ Day, huge shout out to our amazing crew, Wendy and Gema! They are both pillars of our school and we are so lucky to have them.

Here’s to a great week ahead!

Warmly,

Dr. Jessica Ghobrial, Hermosa View Principal / HB Preschool Director

Dear Vista Families,

We had a wonderful time at our final Flag Ceremony! It was great to celebrate students who were demonstrating our SURF expectations as well as those with outstanding attendance. Thank you to everyone who joined us in recognizing these achievements.

Next Friday, our 2nd graders will be going on their field trip to La Brea Tar Pits & Museum. Students will learn about prehistoric animals and learn about fossils throughout their field trip. Thank you to parent volunteers who will be joining our 2nd graders on a fun filled day.

As we begin preparing for Staff Appreciation Week, I know many parents are eager to recognize teachers for the dedication and care they give to their children. Thank you to our staff for everything you do each day to support your students. I am so thankful to work with a staff that truly loves what they do.

Warmly,

Grace Yang, Hermosa Vista Principal

Hermosa Valley School Principal News

Dear Vista Families,

Our 7th graders came back from CIMI this week with rave reviews! Teachers shared that it was a fantastic trip with a great group of students. We’re now looking forward to our 6th graders heading to Pali on Monday and are excited for another successful experience.

Parents, please know that I will continue to send updates as students travel to and from camp, including an estimated time of arrival as they get closer to home—just as I did for AstroCamp and CIMI. Be sure to check your email for the most up-to-date information during travel.

If you know a family who is not receiving these Wave Watch newsletters—and therefore would not receive these updates—please have them email Jasmin Martinez so she can ensure their email address is properly added.

Reminders:

  • Camp Attendance: If your child is not attending camp, they are still expected to attend school. We will have programming available for them to participate in here at Valley.
  • Campus Safety: Please remind your students to walk their bikes and scooters while on campus, including along the walkway into the front of the school and once they enter through the back gate. Keeping everyone safe is our shared responsibility.
  • Drop-Off Procedures: We kindly ask that there be no parent drop-offs at the back of the school. This is a courtesy we extend to our neighbors. Please use the valet or an alternative drop-off location to ensure students can enter campus safely.

Athletics Update:

We have a home game on Thursday against Adams. We’d love to see you come out and support our talented athletes!

5th Grade Career Day

We will be hosting a 5th grade Career Day on Tuesday, June 2, and are looking for volunteers to share their career and passions with our students. Our students are especially interested in fields like science, engineering, healthcare, the arts, and unique self-made careers, but we welcome a wide variety of professions. The day will include two sessions (morning and afternoon), with students rotating every 20 minutes for a 15-minute presentation and 5-minute Q&A. Volunteers will have the opportunity to present to all 5th grade classes in this rotation format. HERE is the interest form which closes on Friday, May 8. For questions, please contact Lara Hruska.

Middle School Career Day

Middle School Career Day on Thursday, June 4, and we’re looking for parent volunteers to participate!

We’re seeking individuals who are passionate about their careers and willing to share what you do, your educational and training path, and what you enjoy most about your work. This year’s event will be a career fair format, with each volunteer hosting a table and connecting with students in 1:1 or small group conversations. Time commitment: 8:35 AM – 11:05 AM. If you’re interested in participating, please complete the THIS form. Thank you for helping us enrich our students’ learning and future planning!

8th Grade Families

8th grade families—please be on the lookout for promotion-related updates beginning the second week of May so you can prepare for the promotion event and other important end-of-year activities.

We appreciate your partnership and support and are looking forward to a successful month of May.

Warmly,

Jessica Bledsoe, Hermosa Valley Principal
