Transfer Station Recycling Advisory Committee (TRAC) Talk

Advisory Committee Priorities:

At the June 18th meeting of TRAC, committee members and Sharon and Salisbury Selectmen attending the ZOOM meeting contributed their ideas for a list of actions that would further address waste reduction and recycling efficiency. Ideas included:

1.   Expansion of food waste program.

2.   Separate glass collection.

3.   Setting up tables at the Transfer Station so that volunteers can 1) answer questions and offer suggestions about recycling, 2) explain the residential food waste drop-off program and offer starter kits to begin participation, and 3) guide SWAP SHOP users about placement of items so everyone can leave things and take things while leaving the SWAP SHOP tidier and more functional.

4.   Provide helpful list of resources for residents and businesses

5.   Develop better community outreach through posters, town meeting, ads in Lakeville Journal, and maybe social media. (Other ideas welcome! Contact bbettigole@yahoo.com.)

6.   Consider finding a way to get more organics like the milfoil collected from the lakes in Salisbury and Sharon to a composting site.

TRANSFER STATION STICKERS

New stickers will be available July 1; purchased at Town Hall or by mail. Stickers should be affixed to your vehicle’s windshield before August 1st.

Every resident in the towns of Salisbury and Sharon must pay a User Fee (aka Sticker Fee). Even if you use a hauler (ex. Richard Ralph or Welsh Sanitation) to transport your material to the facility, their arrangement with you does not include the User Fee Sticker cost. This fee must be paid whether you use the station during the year or not. Once paid, you will receive a sticker that will allow you access to the station throughout the year, should you decide to go with your own vehicle. Your current (pink) sticker is valid through August 1st, 2025.

2.   Forms will be available at Town Hall and online at: https://www.salisburysharontransferstation.com

3.  You must pay for the sticker(s) at Town Hall by Cash/Check/Credit Card (There is a processing fee for credit cards).

To return by, mail to: Selectmen's Secretary, PO Box 548, Salisbury, CT 06068

If you have any questions, please call 860-435-5170.
