Take a Closer Look at a Second Year Meadow

As the seasons and years go by, meadows change and evolve. Now in its second year, the Deer Lakes Barn Solar Meadow is filling in with more wildflowers and grasses while attracting bees, butterflies, birds and other wildlife.

Join us for the second installment in our meadow series as we take a closer look at what you can expect from a meadow in its second year, including a video offering a glimpse of Deer Lakes' meadow in August. Take a look with us!

Highmark Bright Blue Futures Award

We’re proud to be a #HighmarkBrightBlueFutures awardee! Healthy parks make healthy people and we’re honored that our work to improve, conserve and restore your nine Allegheny County Parks has been recognized with a 2026 Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Bright Blue Futures Award. This grant funding of $60,000 will help us continue creating healthier, more vibrant parks where people can connect with nature, get active, find space to recharge and enjoy the many benefits of more than 12,000 acres of green space across Allegheny County.

See our work in action in the Highmark Foundation's inspiring video!

We’re grateful to the Highmark Foundation for recognizing the connection between healthy communities and healthy parks and for investing in organizations demonstrating measurable, lasting impact on community health outcomes.

EQT Volunteer Work in South Park

On September 10, 18 amazing EQT Corporation employees joined us near Maple Springs pond in South Park for a few hours of hands-on work. Volunteers worked hard to spread approximately 20 cubic yards of mulch, or about 2.5 dump truck loads, around trees in a popular mowed area. The mulch helps protect trees from lawn mowers and weed trimmers, retain moisture during dry periods and support healthy tree growth. Volunteers also picked up litter and improved a past planting site by removing tree protection that was no longer needed. Along the way, we talked with park visitors and dog walkers who shared how much this area means to them and how much they appreciate the volunteer work!

A huge thank you to the EQT volunteers for your time, energy and enthusiasm and to the Allegheny County Park Rangers for leading the work! Together, we had a great time, connected with the community and made a lasting impact in South Park.

Permanent Signage Coming Soon to the Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden

We are thrilled to share that the permanent signage for the Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden is coming soon! The new signage will include information about the sculptures and artists, as well as wayfinding signs to help visitors explore. Designed to complement the Sculpture Garden and honor its unique character, the signs will make it easier to learn, navigate and enjoy this special place.

As installation gets underway, some of the temporary signs currently identifying the sculptures will be removed and you will see customized yard signs identifying each artwork take their place. The accompanying audio tour will continue to be available throughout this process!

Thank you for your patience as we make this transition and continue to make Hartwood Acres Park even more welcoming!

Park 'til Dark Impact

At Park ’til Dark's Tree Planting on September 26, 20 amazing volunteers dedicated their morning to improving North Park! Together, we planted 200 native trees and shrubs near the Little Mama Shelter in honor of Public Lands Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and caring for the public lands and natural spaces that connect us to nature and to one another.

Our planting included a diverse mix of native species, including: false indigo bush, red chokeberry, yellow birch, shagbark hickory, catalpa, hackberry, red osier dogwood, winterberry, sweetgum, shortleaf pine, black cherry, chokecherry, bur oak and chestnut oak. As they grow, these plants will provide food and habitat for wildlife, improve the landscape and help strengthen the health of North Park for years to come.

We’re so grateful to our volunteers for their hard work, to the Allegheny County Parks Rangers for leading the event, to TreeVitalize for providing trees for this planting and to Public Lands for sponsoring this impactful effort. We love seeing our community come together to care for the parks we all enjoy and share!

Cheers to Ten Years of

Pour at the Park

On Saturday, September 26, we celebrated 10 years of Pour at the Park at North Park! We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to spend the evening with us. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, sponsors, volunteers and supporters, we raised $22,689 to improve, conserve and restore your county parks!

For the past 10 years, Pour at the Park has been a chance to bring people together, enjoy an evening in the park and support the places we all love. Thank you for being part of this tradition and helping make this year’s event so special.

Ways to Support

Leave a Lasting Legacy for Your Parks

You can help shape the future of Allegheny County Parks through a planned gift. Planned giving is a meaningful way to support the parks for generations to come, often without affecting your finances today.

You can include the Allegheny County Parks Foundation in your will, name us as a beneficiary of an IRA or transfer stock or other qualified investments.

However you choose to give, your planned gift can help ensure that the parks you love remain healthy, accessible and thriving for years to come. Learn more on our website or connect with our Director of Development, Caitlin Harpster, to explore the options.
