Fifth Annual Chicagoland Workforce Development Symposium Recap
On Thursday, October 22nd, approximately 300 workforce development practitioners, employers, and funders, attended the Fifth Annual Chicagoland Workforce Development Symposium at Malcolm X College. The day focused on bridging gaps with sessions examining practices and partnerships that exemplified this theme. The Symposium was hosted by CWFA, World Business Chicago, Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, Chicago Jobs Council, City Colleges of Chicago and the Innovation Nexus, and sponsored by Origami Works Foundation.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make the Symposium a great success! From the planning team, speakers, volunteers, and every attendee - your energy, collaboration, and commitment made this event truly special.
Check out the Symposium Resource Hub which contains presentation materials from all the sessions, including PDFs of slide decks and handouts. Save the date for the Sixth Annual Chicagoland Workforce Development Symposium on Thursday, October 21, 2027.

City of Chicago Passes the
Jobs Plan Ordinance!
CWFA congratulates Jobs to Move America on the passing of the Chicago Jobs Plan Ordinance, a major victory for manufacturing workers nationwide.
Chicago spends billions of dollars every year on goods and equipment it needs to function. The policy, set to take effect January 1, 2027, directs the city to evaluate companies and give them higher scores based on job creation, pay, benefits, and training programs. The idea is simple: The bigger the commitment to workers, the higher the score. A win-win for workers and companies. By passing the Chicago Jobs Plan, the city has taken a tremendous step to improve the lives of workers across our city and the country.

Impact in Action: Skills for Chicago
Our partner, Skills for Chicago, connects overlooked job seekers with meaningful employment, helping individuals and families reach economic stability while strengthening our city’s workforce. Since 2012, they’ve helped connect more than 15,000 Chicagoans with job opportunities through partnerships with employers and community organizations.
This year, they made the difficult decision to cancel their annual fundraising event in solidarity with striking hospitality workers, standing firm in their commitment to opportunity for all. Though they couldn’t gather as planned, the need for their work hasn’t changed.
