Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!

HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

Spring 2020 was a funky admission season to say the least. With the COVID pandemic and the subsequent national shutdown, VCHS shifted gears to a remote world, including with admissions, but successfully reopened its doors to in-person learning by August. That’s when the Class of 2024 began their high school years.

Next week, our thirty-one Seniors will cross the stage with diplomas in hand and join the ranks of 600+ VCHS alumni. Before that happens, there are several traditions next week that they will experience.

On Thursday, the entire student body will gather for a Chicago-style hot dog lunch – don’t ask me why Chicago-style and not Philly Cheesesteak! The yearbook and Articulation magazine will be unveiled. On Friday, Baccalaureate will be held at Beaver Creek Chapel. Then on Saturday, our 25th Commencement will take place at the Vilar. Beth Guckenberger, Co-Director of Back2Back Ministries, will give the address. We have partnered with Back2Back Ministries with two recent mission trips.

Not all final college decisions have been made, but I’m proud to share that to date, we know that our soon-to-be graduates will attend colleges in fourteen states, one will take a gap year, and one will enlist in the United States Army. If you’re interested in their geographic preferences, Colorado and California colleges rank one and two respectively and the majority of these graduates will remain west of the Mississippi River (seven of the thirty-one are planning to head east).

Although the Class of 2024 began their high school experience within what now seems a surreal time, they were resilient and finished strong. We are proud of each and every one of them as they now embark on the next chapters of their lives. At VCHS, we have worked hard to provide them with a solid foundation for their lives, especially in the areas of academic preparation for college and character rooted in our Christian values. And as they cross the threshold from students to alumni, they will remain family forever!

What started at VCHS with eleven dads almost ten years ago has slowly turned into about 130 men and women in the Valley meeting in groups on a regular basis. Ascend Vail’s tagline is, Building Community. Pursuing Faith. We do this by putting men in men’s groups and women in women’s groups of 12-15 people who meet weekly for 12 weeks in the spring and 12 weeks in the fall for 1 hour at a time. We talk about life and pursue a deeper faith together, and it has been life changing for many! But don’t take my word for it, hear what those involved have to say.

VCHS is making plans to partner with Ascend to launch one or more groups this August. If you’d be interested in joining a group or just getting more information, please email Scott Leonard at ascendvail@gmail.com.

VCHS Testimonials

Ascend uses the simplicity of men’s/women’s groups to bring people together as we walk through life’s many seasons. For me the unexpected benefit was becoming such close friends with some older and younger guys in my group as we sought to go deeper in our faith together; we are all in very different places on that spectrum due to our upbringings.

Charlie Meynier (Dad, Class of ’24)

Our Ascend group has been a joy to be involved in as I’ve been able to meet more guys in the community. To be able to share life’s highs and lows together is a real gift for all of us.

Ben Dodds (Dad, Classes of ’24 and ’25)

Since joining an Ascend group I have made many new friends and reconnected with old ones too. Hearing everyone’s stories and what’s going on in everyone’s lives is an eye opening experience.

Parker Smith (Dad, Class of ’26)

Life isn’t always easy and if it was it would be boring. For those times when marriage, family, or work aren’t easy, a group like Ascend, gives us support, guidance, and a consideration of how faith can help us move forward. I’m a better person because of my Ascend group.

Chris Pryor (Dad, Classes of ’24 and ’28)

Student Creator of the Week Marek Labenski

In this multi media project students from Ms. Juskaitis's English class wrote original poems. And students from Mr. Hall's Digital Media class created multi media videos showcasing the poems. The results are some wonderful projects created by students working creatively together.
