February 23 – Donald J. Fraser – Nonfiction History – The Great Flip: The Shifting Views of Liberals and Conservatives on Active Government

In The Great Flip, Donald J. Fraser takes the reader through a tour of American history, showing how liberals and conservatives gradually flipped positions on the role of government in American life. From the Colonial Era through the Great Depression, Fraser introduces us to some of the key players in the history of the United States and how they impacted the nature of governance in America. The rivalry for political power between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton during the Founding Era, and Herbert Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt during the Great Depression, represent the bookends for this work of history. Don is a popular OLLI instructor.

March 22 – Dorothe Kress – Novelized Memoir –The Risk: Forbidden Love Behind the Iron Curtain

Based on author Dorothe Kress's personal experiences, this is a thriller of a story. Kristina has grown up in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Being a model citizen, the Secret Police, Stasi, has been only quietly frightening background noise to her. But when she falls in love with an American man, she discovers just how all-powerful, intimidating, and aggressive a police state can be for those who challenge the system. A great read that you will not want to put down. This compelling love story is inspired by the author’s own file the Stasi kept on her.
