Message from the Superintendent
Dear Members of the Bowling Green City Schools Community,
The school year continues to move along quickly. Can you believe that one week from today, the first quarter of the school year will be over? It is hard to believe how quickly the weeks are passing!
The past few weeks have been filled with wonderful opportunities to celebrate the talents and accomplishments of our students. Our choir and orchestra students recently shared their hard work and musical talents through a series of outstanding concerts and our band students have their concerts next week. Thank you to all of our student musicians, directors, and staff members who dedicated countless hours to preparing for these performances. Your commitment and passion are truly inspiring, and we are proud of the performances you share with our community.
As we look ahead, we are also approaching the conclusion of our fall athletic seasons. Good luck to all of our student-athletes as you compete in season-ending tournaments, meets, matches, and games. We are proud of the dedication, teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit you demonstrate both on and off the field of competition.
As always, there is so much happening throughout our school district, and I hope you enjoy this edition of our e-newsletter. Within this email, you will find highlights of the wonderful activities and accomplishments of our students, as well as celebrations of the successes of our outstanding staff.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and schools. We are grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community, and we look forward to all that the remainder of the school year will bring.
Go Bobcats,
Dr. Ted Haselman
Superintendent
| | October Staff Member of the Month: Krista Kerin | | |
Krista’s colleagues describe her as “the heart of Conneaut”—a dedicated team player whose kindness, organization, and strong work ethic help keep the school running smoothly each day.
As an administrative assistant, Krista manages countless responsibilities while consistently going beyond her job description to help wherever she is needed. She anticipates needs, meets deadlines, solves problems, and finds ways to make school procedures more efficient. Whether she is organizing substitutes and supplies, supporting school celebrations, troubleshooting equipment, or simply helping a colleague with a question, Krista is someone others can count on.
| | | |
Her colleagues also praise her as a “welcoming and calming presence” for students, staff, families, and visitors. She greets others with a smile, listens patiently, and remains professional and caring even during challenging situations. One colleague shared that Krista’s presence lets people know, “she has you covered.”
Krista’s initiative, compassion, and commitment to service have made an impact on the Conneaut community. She is a trusted resource, a dependable teammate, and someone who helps make the school a welcoming place for everyone.
| | Bringing Space Exploration to Life at BGHS | | |
Bowling Green High School students recently explored the science and history of space exploration through two unique educational experiences.
Last week, Greg Brown, museum historian at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, visited BGHS to share the story of the Apollo 11 lunar landing and Neil Armstrong’s historic achievements with students in STEAM, Freshman Physical Science, American History, and AP U.S. History classes. Students also explored plans for future space missions to the moon and beyond.
Today, STEAM and Freshman Physical Science students put their engineering skills to the test during an interactive rocketry activity with educators from the Armstrong Air & Space Museum. Working in teams, students used balloons as rockets, air as fuel, straws as guidance systems, and paper clips as payloads. Their challenge was to design and launch their rocket to the top of a pole while carrying as many paper clips as possible. Students developed and tested hypotheses, experimented with design adjustments, and discussed ways to improve their results using the engineering design process. The program offered an engaging, low-stakes environment for students to apply scientific concepts, collaborate, and learn through experimentation.
Science teachers Beth McIntosh and Lilly Ahmed wrote the grant application to connect these experiences with students’ coursework on the universe and motion. Nearly 500 students benefited from these opportunities, funded by the Bowling Green Community Foundation’s America 250 initiative, which supports experiential learning that fosters curiosity, critical thinking and civic awareness while providing students of all backgrounds with meaningful educational opportunities connected to this historic milestone.

A Look Inside the New BGHS
Our high school staff recently had the opportunity to tour the new Bowling Green High School and see the progress firsthand. It was exciting to walk through the building, get a glimpse of the spaces taking shape, and envision what’s ahead for our students and staff.
The tour was led by BGHS alumna Maggie Meszaros, a 2023 graduate who is now studying architecture at Bowling Green State University and completing a co-op with Rudolph Libbe Group.
| | Holiday Assistance Available Through Dear Santa Society | | |
The Dear Santa Society is once again offering holiday assistance to residential families of children who attend Bowling Green City Schools. Assistance may include clothing and toys for children, as well as holiday hams, hygiene products, paper products, and laundry products, depending on available resources.

The Dear Santa Society
PO Box 513
Bowling Green, OH 43402

Eligible children range from infancy through high school graduation.
Families will be contacted by December 11 regarding their request. Holiday assistance will be delivered December 19 between 9 and 11 a.m., and an adult must be present at the home.
The Dear Santa Society notes that the need for assistance is significant. Families who have received assistance in the past may be placed on a waiting list so the organization can prioritize families requesting help for the first time.
