Hello ,

I hope you're having a wonderful start to September. This edition of The Monthly Nugget is particularly special because I'm announcing something that rarely happens—an update to my legendary Four-step Persuasion Framework one-pager. Updates to this framework don't come often, but when they do, they're significant. This change is about what I call "Creating Objection Awareness," and it could transform how effectively you persuade others. I'm excited to share why this small addition makes such a big difference.

Warmly,
Marc

A Rare but Important Update: Introducing Objection Awareness

After thousands of training sessions and countless refinements, I'm announcing something that doesn't happen often: an update to the Four-step Persuasion Framework one-pager. This framework has remained remarkably consistent because it works—but this addition is too important not to share.

Why This Change is Important

The important addition is this: we need to execute the four steps of persuasion against the backdrop of being aware of why somebody may not want to do what we ask them to do. Most people try to persuade using their customary messages without understanding the real objection their audience harbors.

While I've always addressed objections during my training sessions—particularly when discussing the importance of self-interest in Step 1—I realized this critical concept wasn't sufficiently highlighted in the Four-step Persuasion Framework one-pager itself. This update fixes that gap.

A Simple Sequence of Questions

Creating objection awareness is elegantly simple—just three cascading questions:

  1. Who is the audience?
  2. What action do we want them to take?
  3. What objections might they have to taking that action?

This logical sequence leads directly to understanding the real barriers you need to overcome.

Pro tip: One of the best ways to discover objections is to listen carefully and ask questions in conversations. When you genuinely engage with your audience, they'll often reveal exactly why they might hesitate to take action—giving you the insight you need to address their concerns effectively.

The Strategic Advantage

Once you understand the objection, Step 1 of the framework—creating curiosity—becomes laser-focused. Instead of generic messaging, you craft claims designed specifically to overcome their primary concern. This is why objection awareness appears prominently at the top of the updated framework.

A Common Mistake

A common mistake in persuasion is barking up the wrong tree—trying to overcome the wrong objection. Without objection awareness, people craft messages that sound compelling but miss the mark entirely because they're addressing concerns their audience doesn't actually have.

For example, organizations might speak passionately about the impact of their services, not realizing their audience's real objection is whether those services are still needed. They're solving the wrong problem because they haven't identified the actual barrier that's holding people back.

Your Training Edge

This addition reinforces what makes Elevator Speech Training unique: we condense the entire act of persuasion into four steps that fit on a single page. Now, with objection awareness, that legendary one-pager becomes even more powerful—helping you not just what to say, but why your specific audience needs to hear it.

Here's a screenshot of what the new framework one-pager looks like now:
