For the Seder Rosen family, some of the most meaningful moments in Jewish life happen around a shared table. Meals are where stories are told, values are practiced, questions are welcomed, laughter is abundant, and generations learn from one another. The table is where family connections are strengthened and Jewish identity becomes something felt and carried forward.
That belief is at the heart of their commitment to the chadar ochel.
At Camp, the chadar ochel is much more than a dining hall. It is the physical and spiritual heart of Camp – filled with ruach (spirit) and belonging. It is where campers sing at the top of their lungs, celebrate Shabbat, honor one another's achievements with Eizeh Yofi, share traditions, and experience the everyday joy of Jewish life together.
For Diane and Bruce, those experiences were an important part of their children’s development. Camp helped nurture their confidence, individuality, kindness, Jewish identity, and sense of community.
“Camp has been a true partner in raising our kids,” Diane and Bruce shared.
As plans for the chadar ochel took shape, Diane and Bruce began conversations with their family about legacy and their shared belief that Jewish camp plays an essential role in the future of Jewish peoplehood. Together, the family chose to make this commitment across generations. What began as an expression of gratitude for what Camp had given their family became a powerful multigenerational investment in what Camp can give families for decades to come.
"This deeply inspiring gift represents an intergenerational commitment to invest in a Jewish future the family can clearly imagine. It honors the impact Camp Interlaken has had and reflects the Seder Rosens' remarkable confidence in what Interlaken can become," Camp Interlaken Executive Director Toni Davison Levenberg shared. "This leadership gift allows the chadar ochel project to move forward and opens new opportunities for others to join in bringing this shared vision to life."
The new chadar ochel is expected to welcome campers in summer 2028, creating a new home for the shared meals, spirited songs, Shabbat celebrations, friendships, and traditions that are so central to the Camp Interlaken experience.
The Board of Directors and staff of the Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC and the leadership of Camp Interlaken JCC are deeply grateful to the entire Seder Rosen family for this extraordinary commitment. Their generosity honors the profound impact Camp Interlaken has had on their family while helping ensure that thousands of future campers will experience that same sense of connection, joy, friendship, and Jewish belonging.
With tremendous gratitude and excitement for Camp’s future,
