COLLABORATIONS CORNER
In 2017, Norcan Consulting Ltd. collaborated with the University of Northern British Columbia to construct an Archaeological Risk Framework Tool/Predictive Model to support and complement City of Prince George land-use planning and capital projects.

With Norcan in the lead role, UNBC Mathematics and Statistics Professor Dr. Pranesh Kumar, graduate student Andrew Agbonigha, GIS Senior Laboratory Instructor Scott Emmons and Geography Professor Dr. Roger Wheate designed this tool to:

  • Minimize the risk of impacting or altering known or unknown archaeological sites;
  • improve the planning process and limit unexpected and needless costs incurred on developers and the City;
  • and be accessible and effective.

This work will allow the City of Prince George to exceed the BC Archaeology Branch’s requirements. In addition, this GIS-based model can easily be integrated into the City’s mapping software, providing a useful enhancement for City Planners.
