Suicide Resources for Parents:
Talking about suicide is the best way to prevent it!
Talking about suicide has proven to prevent suicide; it does NOT plant suicidal thoughts nor cause suicides.
Ask your teenager/child if they have or are having suicidal thoughts. Don't be afraid to say the word "suicide." Getting the word out in the open may help your teenager understand that someone has heard their cries for help.
- Ask your teen/child to talk about their feelings. Listen carefully. Do not dismiss their problems or get angry at them based on what they tell you.
If you need help to know if your teenager or an adult is in a suicide crisis or at a higher risk, call the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Family Crisis Line at 614-722-1800 to talk with a professional counselor. They can provide a suicide assessment of your teen/child while on the phone with you or your child.
Grief Resources for Parents:
OhioHealth at Home, Hospice Bereavement is offering school-based grief support services for DACC students who have experienced the death of a friend or family member.
Sessions include supportive discussions and expressive/commemorative projects that help teens identify and express their feelings, honor and remember their loved ones, and develop healthy strategies to navigate their grief. The service is free. A Hospice bereavement counselor will meet with students in a small group for 30 minutes at DACC for 6 to 8 weeks.
An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, during school hours. Interested students should email our behavioral health specialists Tamara Firzharris, FirzharrisT@DelawareAreaCC.org
