by Kristin Hannah

A moving story of the horrors of the Vietnam War, told through a young nurse's perspective. Frankie worked in the front line hospitals alongside Barb and Ethel, and the three became friends for life. The war was brutal on medics and soldiers alike, but these women held each other together long after the fighting was over. Another fantastic read from Kristin Hannah.

MARTYR!

by Kaveh Akbar

In his debut novel, "Martyr!," Kaveh Akbar has given us an intense literary view of a young Iranian man's search for the meaning of death. Having never known his mother because her plane was shot down over the Persian Gulf in a senseless ‘accident,' Cyrus our poet protagonist becomes obsessed with martyrs. He journeys through addiction, sobriety, sexual orientation, and thankfully a redeeming relationship. Told with humor and grace, you are in for a roller coaster of emotions. Don’t miss.

THE OTHER VALLEY

by Scott Alexander Howard

I couldn’t put this book down, and when I had to, I couldn’t wait to pick it up again! Compelling and immersive, this story of a young girl falling in love is complicated by the fact that her home valley is bordered by two other valleys where the past and future live. No interaction between the valleys is allowed, as an unexpected sighting could change the trajectory of life for all. But sometimes borders must be crossed. Unique, beautifully written and a new favorite of mine.

PIGLET

by Lottie Hazell

(releases 2/27/24)

This debut novel is told almost entirely through dialogue and descriptions of food and is utterly delectable. The relationships between the characters are deeply complicated, tangled and human. While some scenes were excruciatingly painful, including the origin of the main characters' childhood nickname of Piglet, I couldn’t look away.  So much of the story is about appearances and the pressure on women to be happy with their life and rarely ask for or expect more.
