October 10, 2019
Friends,
At Wednesday Night Supper this week, Andy (our newest clergy member) invited us to take five deep breaths as we began our service. In the mountains of North Carolina, where some of us spent last weekend at Kanuga (scroll to the bottom to see a few photos), I didn’t have to be reminded to breathe deeply. By mid-week, the bustle already dislodged nature’s gracious rhythms, so accessible when we step away from the daily grind.

Autumn invites us to slow down. To notice colors changing. To let humidity refresh (rather than drain) us. To enjoy the chill in the air (finally, sweater weather!) as we walk outdoors a bit more often. The gifts of nature remind us of the precious connections we share and invite us to give thanks for our enjoyment of what our Prayer Book calls “this fragile Earth, our island home.”

Next Wednesday, October 16, please come share supper with us in Ellis Hall (any time after 5:30 p.m.). That night after our meal, a cohort of young adults will host a conversation with other saints in our community who are passionate about caring for God’s creation and living in ways that honor our planet and its diverse inhabitants. If you can, please join us in the Parish House, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in room P201 (around the corner from the restroom on the second floor).
May these cooler days bless you with moments to breathe deeply and bask in God’s love for the whole creation,
The Rev. Sarah Stewart
Associate Rector for Young Adults and Innovation
