In 1923, after a devastating fire at the former Normal School, presently Bridgewater State College, the fire department was reorganized.
The original station was constructed in the 1860s and additional additions were made to the facility in 1951, 1960, and 1972.

Climate Can Do:
Recycling Household Scraps Through Composting
Thinking about starting to create your own compost? Composting is simple, and can be done right in your own back yard in a designated space or box.
Composting is a controlled, aerobic (oxygen-required) process that converts organic materials into a nutrient-rich soil amendment or mulch through natural decomposition. Microorganisms feed on the materials added to the compost pile, breaking it down into core materials.
Materials you add are "greens" and "browns." Greens provide nitrogen, and can include fresh grass clippings, food scraps, and coffee grounds. Browns provide carbon and act as a food source. Typical browns you can add include dead leaves, branches, twigs, and paper.
Benefits to Composting
- Improves the structure and health of your soil by adding organic matter.
- Helps the soil retain moisture and nutrients.
- Attracts beneficial organisms to the soil and reduces the need for pesticides and fertilizers.
- Reduces the potential for soil erosion.
- Sequesters carbon in the soil.
- Builds resiliency to the impacts of climate change.
Aerating occasionally helps the process. Without oxygen a compost pile is ready in 6 months to a year. With oxygen added in just a few months, add compost to your flower and vegetable beds, window boxes, and container gardens; incorporate it into tree beds; mix it with potting soil for indoor plants for a nutrient rich soil.
Erin Payne, Buzz Around Intern and SNHU student wrote this Climate Can-Do Article.
Together, we can make a difference by taking action to live sustainably. Let's empower ourselves to create a better future for our planet, one step at a time.

Illuminating History ~ The Stained Glass Windows of Trinity Episcopal Church
Trinity Episcopal Church has opened its doors since 1747. The current building at 91 Main Street, constructed in 1884, is renowned for its stained glass windows, each unique and rich with individual stories. A new blog series by Trinity Bridgewater aims to unveil the beauty and historical significance of these remarkable windows.
The inaugural post focuses on the Good Shepherd window: a symbol of both the Trinity and its architectural beauty. This three-piece arrangement depicts Jesus tending to his flock, accompanied by inscriptions, "I Am the Good Shepherd" and "I Will Seek That Which Was Lost." Donated by the children of St. Thomas Church in Taunton in 1884 and crafted by Donald McDonald, the window underwent restoration in 2018, funded by parishioners to ensure its enduring beauty and solace for those who visit Trinity.
According to the Trinity Bridgewater newsletter, "The twelve magnificent windows were gifts from past parishioners and clergy, with some families continuing their tradition and devotion to this day. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these windows are repositories of history, each narrating its own tale." This series promises a beautifully insightful exploration into the stories that have shaped Bridgewater's heritage.
