Clara Ortega (NHS’21) says she has always been driven to find ways to improve health outcomes. Once she realized that decisions made in health care administration could greatly impact population health, she knew she wanted to be part of that decision-making process.
Veterans across the country who are in need of a life-saving liver or kidney transplant now can receive these procedures at one of the top transplant centers in the nation, MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, thanks to the recent inclusion of the MedStar Health program in the Veterans Health Administration network.
Research from MedStar Georgetown’s Division of Community Pediatrics and MedStar Health Research Institute sheds light on how to boost enrollment in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
Researchers at MedStar Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the University of Utah found electronic health record (EHR) vendor alleged misconduct may have led to widespread use of suboptimal products for more than 70,000 clinicians across the country, as published in JAMA Health Forum.

Future Federal Grant Requirement – Digital Persistent Identifier (DPI)
Starting in 2023, new regulations will require all recipients of Federal research grants to have a “digital persistent identifier.” A common DPI is the Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier, ORCID, supported by the Dahlgren Memorial Library. If you are a researcher and don’t have an ORCID number, please contact C. Scott Dorris for assistance.
Severe weather in winter can make homelessness a life-threatening situation. The Georgetown University Center for Social Justice partners with the nonprofit Georgetown Ministry Center to form a Hypothermia Outreach Team (HOT) to assess the needs of those living on the street, help prevent cold weather injury and death from exposure, and encourage them to seek safety in available shelters. The next training for HOT members is Tuesday, November 29, 7:00-8:30 p.m. via Zoom. RSVP here.
Hoya Transit Pilot for Spring Semester
Students have until Wednesday, November 30 at 5:00 p.m. to request participation in a pilot program providing a $100 WMATA SmarTrip credit for the semester to up to 2,500 students, to be used toward transit passes or standard pay-as-you-go transit.
