Spring fundraising update, plus OU Giving Day wins
microphone with OU Giving Day logo and words Thank you!
KGOU's spring on-air fundraiser April 2 - 8 raised over $35,000 for the week, from 220 supporters, 50 of them new givers. Overall, more than $167,000 has been pledged or given during this second half of our fiscal year, from our 1000+ sustainers and 900 spring contributors. Thank you all for meeting the matching fund challenges during the fundraiser!

On April 14 KGOU participated in OU Giving Day, a 24-hour fundraising campaign for university departments. Listeners met our challenge to have the most donations during the 7 a.m. hour, and KGOU will receive an additional $3000. Unexpectedly, KGOU also won one of two all-day challenges -- for having the most individuals give over the course of the day -- resulting in an additional bonus of $10,000 for KGOU! Thank you!

KGOU is nearing the end of our fiscal year on June 30, and we're now about $100,000 away from fully funding our operating needs for FY22. If it's time to renew your support, or to join our community of listener/contributors for the first time, your donation now will help KGOU -- and the whole public radio system -- thrive. Your support matters!
KGOU student broadcasters win awards
photos of Beth and Ryan
The student journalists we work with from OU's Gaylord College of Journalism get hands-on experience at KGOU. Their work covering timely news stories has recently been recognized by student media organizations with regional and nationwide awards contests. Ryan Gaylor and Beth Wallis (who has joined our professional staff at StateImpact Oklahoma) were honored for their reporting on the state's infrastructure needs and COVID-19 in public schools, respectively. Congratulations!

KGOU Readers Club: 1947 Woodward Tornado
Spring severe weather is the focus of our next KGOU Readers Club discussion, reading Images of America: 1947 Woodward Tornado by Robin D. Hohweiler and Dr. Deena K. Fisher. It was Oklahoma's deadliest tornado to date, with events in the aftermath that remain unresolved even all these years later. Join Managing Editor Logan Layden for live discussion with the authors on Monday, April 25 at 1 p.m.

BBC's Witness History: The Environment
A special one-hour Witness History from the BBC World Service tells remarkable stories of the history of the environmental movement. Stories recall the discovery of whale song, how a book kickstarted the movement against pesticides, and remember a child climate activist who spoke with passion and anger back in 1992. It's the KGOU Sunday Radio Matinee for Sunday, April 24 at 12 p.m.

Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf Livestream
The first rule of NPR's Tiny Desk Contest is simple: All entry videos must include a desk. Watching each and every one of the thousands of entries to this year’s Contest, judges saw desks of all sizes, desks in unexpected places and desks that tested the limits of what exactly a desk is. Here are the best of the desks in one supercut video.
Now that the entries are in, NPR Music is highlighting some of the best in a livestream series. Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf features Bob Boilen and team talking about some of their favorite entries live on YouTube. The first session is coming up next Thursday, April 28 at 2 p.m. CT. Tune in, sound off in the comments, and maybe find your Contest front-runner. And stay tuned, because the winner will be announced soon!

Congratulations to Our Winners
In our last issue we gave away a pair of tickets to a capella group Chanticleer at Armstrong Auditorium next Tuesday. Our lucky winner is Becky -- congratulations!

And during our spring on-air fundraiser we gave away tickets to see James Taylor and His All-Star Band at the Paycom Center in July. Our winners were Michael, Jenny, Hannah, and Tonya. PLUS, Larry was our winner of a pair of tickets to see Andrea Bocelli at the Paycom Center June 23. Enjoy the concerts!
