PARSHAT VAYETZEI

Rabbi Josh Strosberg

I have been hearing a common theme in recent Disney movie songs: someone is on the verge of journeying to a place beyond where one has previously been. I’m thinking “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, “Beyond” from Moana 2, “Into the Unknown” from Frozen 2 and I could even throw in “Defying Gravity” from Wicked.

Remembering the hostages

Starting with the month of Kislev, as we head toward Chanukah with the hope of light, we remember our precious hostages still being held. The middle school and high school will dedicate their learning each day to a different hostage. Tuesday - Thursday's learning were dedicated in turn to the hostages, Kfir Bibas, Ariel Bibas and Shiri Bibas.

The Giraffes learned all about rocks- which ones are heavy or light, smooth or bumpy, gray or white. They then used magnifying glasses to look at the rocks more closely!!

כיס לב and  כסלו

In a play on words, the 3rd and 4th graders in Morah Tamar’s Hebrew class learned a list of positive attributes in Hebrew. Each student then made a shirt with a heart pocket. They then wrote separate positive attributes in Hebrew for each other and put those “good words” in each other’s כיס לב ( heart pocket).

Rabbi Nemes' middle school Gemara class has been learning about the rules of "ikar" and "tafel" in determining which bracha to make on a mixture of foods. This week, Rabbi Nemes brought in an assortment of foods - ice cream sandwiches, Oreos, KitKats, carrots, and hummus. They filled in a chart asking which foods are in the mixture, which is the ikar and which is the tafel, and which bracha(ot) you should make. They then made those brachot and enjoyed the food mixtures!
