July 2026:
Measuring 30 Years of Impact
| Letter from the Executive Director | |
Over the past several months, as we have celebrated Daya's 30th anniversary, I have found myself asking a simple question: How do you measure 30 years of impact? Sometimes, impact is visible in numbers. In 2016, Daya served 286 survivors. By 2025, that number had more than doubled to 683. In the first six months of 2026, Daya served 390 clients, a 7% increase over the 366 clients served during the same period in 2025.
But the true measure of our impact is not simply how many people we serve. It is how their lives change because someone answered the phone, listened without judgement, helped them create a safety plan, stood beside them in court, connected them to counseling, helped them find safe housing, or provided them with options and support as they decided what safety and healing could look like for them.
Behind every number is a person who reached out during one of the most frightening and uncertain moments of their life. Our work is deeply personal because every survivor's needs, fears, culture, and hopes are deeply personal. And that is only one part of Daya's mission.
The other part is equally important: educating the community in an effort to end the cycle of abuse. If we truly want to create lasting change, we cannot only respond after violence occurs. We must also work to prevent it.
Every presentation, training, outreach event, and community conversation is an opportunity to change how people understand abuse. By engaging healthcare professionals, schools, faith communities, law enforcement, businesses, nonprofits, elected officials, and community members, Daya raises awareness, challenges stigma, promotes healthy relationships, and helps people recognize abuse and respond with compassion.
We may never know the full ripple effect of this work. It may be a friend recognizing the warning signs and reaching out to someone in danger. It may be a faith leader responding differently when a survivor seeks help. It may be a young person learning that control is not love. It may be a professional becoming better equipped to support someone whose culture shapes the choices available to them.
To me, that is the beauty of Daya's mission.
Every day, we have the privilege of helping survivors rebuild their lives. At the same time, we are planting the seeds that we hope will create safer families, healthier relationships, and stronger communities for generations to come.
As we prepare for our 30th Anniversary Gala, we look forward to honoring the resilience of survivors and celebrating the founders, supporters, staff, volunteers, partners, and community members who have made Daya's work possible over the past three decades.
Thirty years is a remarkable milestone, but our work is far from finished. The impact of the past three decades inspires us to continue standing beside survivors, educating our community, and building a future where every individual can live with safety, dignity, and hope.
Thank you for being part of Daya's journey. We look forward to celebrating with you on September 18!

| | Daya Throwback - Bridging the Gap: Starting Conversations That Matter | | |
For 30 years, Daya has been committed to more than supporting survivors. We have worked to address the root causes of domestic and sexual violence through outreach and prevention initiatives.
In 2006, Daya hosted Bridging the Gap, a community seminar in Sugar Land focused on helping teens and young adults understand and cope with stress and depression. It was one of many conversations that reflected Daya's commitment to raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and creating spaces where communities can learn, connect, and grow stronger together.
That commitment continues today. In 2026 alone, Daya has reached more than 18,500 individuals through outreach booths, education trainings, awareness initiatives, and community-building events. Through our signaure events like Brown Bodies, Bold Stories, Daya brings people together to challenge stigma, spark meaningful conversations, and empower our community with knowledge and resources
Creating lasting change means not only supporting survivors after violence occurs, but also working to prevent it before it begins. We hope you will continue to join us as we raise awareness, inspire change, and work toward a future free from violence.
