A Note From Bill and Sarah

Dear BK Families,

At Bishop Kelly, we believe in keeping our community informed about our students’ academic progress. One of the tools we use is our school profile, an annual document that provides key information about academics at Bishop Kelly. Colleges rely on this profile to understand the rigor and performance of our students as they consider admissions decisions. From the feedback we receive, we know that Bishop Kelly’s profile is highly respected by college admissions officers nationwide.

According to data from the National Student Clearinghouse, 93% of Bishop Kelly graduates persist in college from their freshman to sophomore year, compared to a national average of 89% for similar schools. Additionally, 70% of our students complete their college degrees within six years, significantly higher than the national average of 59% for comparable institutions. These figures reflect the dedication of our students and the quality education they receive at BK.

We are also incredibly proud to highlight some of our outstanding students. This week, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship program. These academically talented seniors now have the opportunity to compete for nearly 7,000 scholarships worth over $26 million, which will be awarded next spring.

We are thrilled to recognize five of our own students as Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Competition:

  • Paige Carr
  • Sally DeFranco
  • Katherine Druist
  • Jack Kartel
  • Charles Tobler

Please join us in congratulating these exceptional students on their remarkable achievements!

God Bless, and Go Knights!

Kaitlin Presta

Community

Katlin consistently contributes by actively participating in group discussions and helping classmates understand challenging concepts. She often takes the initiative in explaining problems during group work, ensuring everyone feels included and supported. Her positive attitude and willingness to collaborate foster a welcoming and productive learning environment for all.

Eduardo Longo Quintas Dos Santos

Generosity

Eduardo’s generosity shines through in both his warm attitude and his readiness to lend a hand. Without hesitation and with a smile, he offered to help a teacher hang up students’ work in the hallway, making the task a shared effort. His positive energy and kindness make a difference in the classroom and beyond.

Kelton Hall

Safe and Caring Place

Kelton is a kind and caring student.  He has been generously helpful and welcoming to a new student, showing him how to log in to Membean, explaining school customs, and asking him about his background to make him feel included and welcome.

Mr. Kerns

Safe and Caring Place

Mr. Kerns is always making sure that everyone in his classroom feels safe and loved. He remembers all the little things, like which students play which sports and when they have games, and he always asks how they went. It's the little things that make the experience in his classroom so much better.   Mr. Kerns also makes math fun. He encourages students to work with different people, and he makes funny jokes that make the environment fun for everyone.

Attendance Office Procedures - please read as some of this information is new this year.

  • Parents are asked to email the school’s Attendance Office before 9:30am on the day a student will be absent from class for all or part of the school day due to an illness or an appointment. That email is attendance@bk.org
  • Bishop Kelly is a closed campus.  This means that students who have professional appointments may leave and return back to campus with a doctor's note or other documentation excusing the absence.  If a parent chooses to check out a student for a non-professional or non-medical reason, then the student will be checked out for the rest of the day.  The student may not return to school that day unless they have a doctor's note or other professional documentation. Our goal is to limit classroom disruptions and maintain the academic integrity of the classroom.  This may affect activity eligibility for the day.
  • Students must sign-out at the Attendance window when they leave campus during the school day, and sign back in at the Attendance Window with documentation when they return.

Access Peterson's from anywhere using BK's Gale database password (students have access to passwords in Schoology) and by creating your own personalized account. Check out this 1-minute video for more information, and reach out to Ms. Ward in the library with any questions!
