Historical Tidbit:

Edward Everett

"The most famous of the early teachers in our town was Edward Everett who was born April 11, 1794. Only fifteen years old when he came to East Bridgewater, Edward Everett was then a junior at Harvard University and spent his ten-week vacation from school earning money teaching in the Eastville section of town.  He once said of his teaching experience in East Bridgewater, 'As a class they were well-mannered and gave me no extra trouble, but I was thankful when the time was up. I found that some of my engaging country pupils were very difficult to handle.' In later years, Edward Everett served as minister of Trinity Church in Copley Square, Governor of Massachusetts, US Secretary of State, US Senator from Massachusetts, Ambassador to the Court of St. James (what would now be Ambassador to Great Britain) and he was the principal speaker at Gettysburg the day President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address."

Climate Can Do:
The Buy Nothing Project
The BN project exists to trade goods freely without purchasing them. Less of our earth's resources are used if we share what we already have. Less items like furniture, clothes, housewares and sporting goods end up in landfills. Over 6 million people around the world are in the Buy Nothing movement! Download the free app and within minutes, you can Give, Ask, and share your Gratitude with your neighbors. It's instant and easy.

What goods can you give on Buy Nothing?: Anything someone else may want. Maybe you have a perfectly good chair to get rid of? You can list it on the BN app, and someone will take it. Do you see something you like, get in touch with the person who posted it, and it can be yours.
What is a Buy Nothing Community?: A BN community is the people around you. There are BN Communities in Bridgewater, Brockton, East / West Bridgewater combined one, as are Halifax & Hanson. Find the community that's right for you.

Donate to the Project: Loving the money you are saving? Contribute here. Helping removes trash from the environment. The longer an item can remain out of a landfill, the better. The BN Project is run by donations by the community and sponsors. Buy Nothing Project is fiscally sponsored by Angels for Angels, a 501(c)(3), Donations are tax-deductible.

Getting involved: If you want to join, you can download the app on your phone or computer from the app store. Anything else you'd like to know? buynothingproject.org

Russel's Barber Shop
The Perfect HairCut

Russell's Barber Shop, 12 West Union St, opened Thanksgiving week, 1970; Russ purchased the 30 year -old shop from John Lavoie. Generations of grandfathers, then fathers, then sons, talk to Russ about everything; local buzz, personal lives, daily frustrations, while he keeps the time-honored tradition of shaving with a straight-edged razor and warm towels. ”I went to barber school and worked in Boston... “ “…my apprenticeship (was) in Hanson with Don Botieri, of Don’s Barber Shop,” Russ remembered. “My father’s advice: ‘Why don’t you go to barber school? If you don’t like it at least you have something to fall back on.’ still rings true.”
In 1999, preparing to film The Perfect Storm in Gloucester, an actor found himself in East Bridgewater, researching life in New England. What better way than to quiz to an old-time barber?
At Russ’s he asked for a "haircut that doesn’t look like a haircut." Russ thought this person was an average Joe. The man asked Russ about the locals and life in EB. Little did Russ know the actor was George Clooney.
Russ's friends invited him to see The Perfect Storm. To his amazement, there was the man on screen that had been in his chair. In an interview, George said Russ was the best barber he had ever had. Today, Russ still gives everyone the same time and attention he gave Geroge Clooney, he prides himself in providing a place to break from the world and spruce up.

Bee - in' Flexible

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.”~ Albert Einstein

“The most important strategy of life is flexibility: Do not insist on the train, neither on the direction of the train, nor on the station! Have the flexibility to take a completely different train from a completely different station in the opposite direction of the direction you want to go in the beginning!”
~ Mehmet Murat ildan

“Adversity is not a roadblock, but a detour. It's up to us to find a new path forward.”~ Jeff Ocaya

"The ability to recognize opportunities and move in new - and sometimes unexpected - directions will benefit you no matter your interests or aspirations." ~ Drew Gilpin Faust

"Be flexible, but stick to your principles."
~ Eleanor Roosevelt

"Even under the most difficult circumstances you can have creative flexibility." ~ Anne M. Mulcahy
It is a strength, the ability to be flexible and adjust your path. It will bring you to your goal quicker than trying to climb or move mountains, which is oh so tiring!
Plus it brings new adventures... and new possibilities! Boing!!! ~ Jacquie
