SC All Things World Languages Webinar Series

SCDE World Languages is hosting All Things World Languages webinar series for 2022-2023. The series is designed to share best practices for supporting students and teachers in the classroom. Participants will leave with a toolkit of valuable tips and strategies.

The series will be co-facilitated by SC WL educators and will run from September 15th to April 27th (4:30-5:30pm)

Heritage Language Learning Symposium
February 22 & 23

This symposium is a hybrid event sponsored by the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. The focus is on promoting a broad understanding of literacy practices and training for Spanish Heritage Speakers. Research on meeting the needs of heritage language learners in a Spanish classroom and the effects of instruction will be shared. Afternoon workshops will delve into Task-based language teaching and integrating critical perspectives in the Spanish Heritage Language curriculum. This symposium is for educators K-16. French Embassy Online Workshop for Teachers
February 11 & 18

The Educational Service of the French Embassy is offering online teacher trainings, including "Développer les compétences orales en classe de FLE" with Pierre-Yves Roux on two Saturdays, February 11 and February 18, from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm ET.
 
This online workshop conducted in French will provide participants with the reflection and tools to enable them to rethink and diversify the periods devoted to oral expression, from the comprehension of audio documents to the production of statements.

CARLA Summer Institute for Language Teachers 2023
Registration is Now Open!

CARLA will offer nine online (asynchronous and synchronous) institutes and six in-person institutes (held on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis). CARLA Summer Institute participants come from every state and from countries all over the world. They include foreign/world language, ESL/EFL, heritage language, and immersion educators at all levels of instruction, as well as program administrators, curriculum specialists, and language teacher educators.

Graduating seniors, who take the National German Exam and score in the 90th percentile or higher, can apply for the NGE Post-Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to seniors in the form of a cash prize to further their German studies after high school.

Multilingual Library

The Bilingualism Matters @ UofSC Library is a space where educators can visit to explore and checkout multilingual books. The collection consists of 2500 titles in multiple languages including English, German, Chinese, Spanish, and French. The books are a mix of picture books and novels for children. UO Center for Applied Second Language Studies

Check out  InterCom a weekly, curated e-digest of materials for world language educators. It is customizable by target language, level, and content area (such as curriculum, professional development, or assessment).

See these videos. They offer language learning activities, support for language learning strategies, and guidance related to how to connect with communities of target language speakers.


ASL Resources

This library of Deaf-created literary and scholarly video resources contains curated community-created stories and storytelling videos, academic research videos, video books, a glossary of signed academic terms and a glossary of linguistic terms related to ASL and signed languages. Designed for learners and teachers of ASL as an L2 as well as academics and researchers of ASL.


Chinese Resources

Asia Society's China Learning Initiatives team is pleased to curate an evolving hub of resources, tools, and perspectives to help educators succeed in their classroom. Visit their Teaching Resources Hub.


French Resources

American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) offers all types of resources in their website for educators in the field. Resources can be filtered by theme, level, type of media, etc. Stop by to explore and perhaps, share!


German Resources

American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) offers all types of resources in their website for educators K-12 and more. Resources include: Virtual Exchange Opportunities, Honor Society Ideas, Images and a plethora of resources for the classroom.


Japanese Resources

JF USA Digital Library Webpage is a free digital library with over 1,800 titles in broad genres such as manga, literature, Japanese language, art, history, culture, society, cooking & food, etc. Please note the digital library is available only for U.S. residents 14 years or older.


Spanish Resources

American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) aims to provide a user-friendly and easy to navigate repository of relevant and innovative materials to support teachers. Classroom resources are organized by themes such as heritage languages, inclusivity, and languages & career. Materials include podcasts, webinars, pandemic-friendly resources and more!


Title VI Language Resource Centers (LRCs)

Title VI Language Resource Centers (LRCs) support the nation’s capacity for language teaching and learning. LRCs offer free or low-cost teaching materials, professional development opportunities, assessment and evaluation services. Material and resources are organized by language, skill, level and audience!
