Hey gang,
In an era of screens, immediate content, and unearned dopamine rushes, the ordinary is easy to overlook. But there is a revolution in the ordinary. It contains beauty, contentment, and the seeds of transformation. Instead, we are training our minds to scroll for what’s next.
The core work of MBS predicates the mysterious potential of ordinary body experiences. Our culture unintentionally prods people living with trauma, loss, and disability to compensate for and overcome perceived inadequacies. Internalized messages like try to fit in, or everything is fine, or the need to prove something are what rule our self-talk. The casualty of this entrenched cultural meme is, too often, the body. I am amazed by how often beginning students have stopped listening to their bodies and see them as the problem rather than the solution. I believe everyone struggles with similarly destructive memes.
At MBS, we help each other connect with the only body we will ever have. We explore, appreciate, and marvel in what our bodies already do before scrolling to the next frame. We help students relish in ordinary body experiences, like sensations of movement, breath, grounding, balance, expansion, and rhythm. Bodies become treasures of wisdom and resilience, not obstacles. It’s amazing the transformations that ensue. The MBS revolution is that we share these realizations from body to mind, not the other way around.
Your body’s experience is already revealing the wonders of being alive. Far from ordinary, the body is miraculous and is the beginning of curiosity, not an object to change. So, a word from our MBS community: listen to your body more…it has secrets to reveal.
