October 2, and 4 are going to be AWESOME!
So now is the time for me to get ready.
I love preparing for special events, practicing my moves, sewing something new and fun, choosing music, and planning the classes. I especially love the challenge of teaching before a milonga. I want the class to be doable for beginners, but still interesting and fun for experienced dancers. That may be the hardest kind of class to teach well, so I always arrive with Plan A, Plan B, and even Plan C!
One thing I’m not preparing too much for is our performance at The Barn. I’ll be dancing ad-lib with Carlos and Mauricio, which means we really don’t know exactly what is going to happen. And you all know me, I love pushing myself, even with dancers that I don't practice with I will be trying something new, and taking a few risks!
Carlos was actually my student more than 30 years ago, and I love his athletic and incredibly musical way of dancing. Mauricio is also wonderfully athletic and musical, and he came to tango through Salsa, just like I did, so I already feel a connection with his movement.
The funny thing is, the more I write this, the more I realize I have absolutely nothing to worry about. I get to improvise with two fantastic leaders to Nuevo music. How much fun is that?
And an ad-lib performance can be especially fun for the audience because anything can happen!
I hope watching us take a few chances might even inspire some of you to take one yourselves and perform in the Argentine Tango Showcase on December 4!
Sometimes the most memorable dancing happens when you prepare well…and then let go.
Two years ago, Julia and I taught the lesson at The Barn and did a demo together. We were just beginning to work together then, and, as always, it was so much fun dancing with her.
Here’s a little memory from that night:

I am beyond excited to see friends and students out dancing at Om this Friday, October 2, and The Barn this Sunday, October 4!
And here’s a bonus: come to Tangoesque at Om on Friday and get $10 off The Barn on Sunday!
For The Barn, it’s a good idea to reserve a table ahead of time. Email thetangobarn@gmail.com.
And come hungry! The Barn’s Fall Harvest Potluck starts around 5:45. Bring something fun to share and your favorite beverage (wine is welcome). They just ask that you take your empty cans and bottles home with you.
I’m especially excited to dance to Los Tangueros del Oeste live!
They blend the passion and rhythms of tango with electronic and contemporary influences, creating music that feels fresh, exciting, and made to move to. Their album Alma Vieja was even nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album!
Two nights. Live Nuevo Tango. Lots of dancing. Wonderful friends.
I can’t wait!
And while we’re talking about things to look forward to, Thanksgiving weekend with Eduardo is going to be fantastic this year! Please let your out-of-town tango friends know now so they can start making plans to join us in Seattle. It’s four days of Argentine Tango—classes, dancing, parties, special events, and our Tango Ball! Come learn, dance, play, socialize, and immerse yourself in tango for the whole weekend. www.michellebadion.com
And then, December 4 will be here before we know it! Now is the perfect time to start dreaming up a number for the Argentine Tango Showcase. Whether you’ve performed many times or never imagined yourself onstage, maybe this is the year to try something new. Dream something up, find a partner, pick some music, and have fun with it!
