Value Proposition and your Target Market

Thursday, February 20

6-8 p.m.

Lake Michigan College

Presenter: Trevor Brooks, Kitchen Tribes

Learn:

  • Who is your target audience?
  • How do you price?
  • What’s your value proposition?

What is a Value Proposition and Why Do I Need One?

Understanding Your Value Proposition

A value proposition is a clear statement that explains the unique value your product or service offers to your target customers. It’s the reason why customers should choose your business over competitors. It should address a specific need or desire of your target market and explain how your offering uniquely satisfies that need better than alternatives.

How to Find Your Value Proposition

Start by conducting your own research on what makes your service valuable is essential. Here are some steps:

  1. Identify Your Target Market: Define who your ideal customer is. Consider factors like demographics, interests, and needs.
  2. Conduct a SWOT Analysis: Evaluate your business’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
  3. Competitive Analysis: Analyze what your competitors offer and how you can differentiate your business.
  4. Customer Surveys: Gather feedback from potential customers to understand their needs and preferences.
  5. Market Research: Use online tools and resources to gather information about your industry and target market.

Examples of Value Propositions

To get an idea of what a strong value proposition looks like, consider these examples:

  • Tech Startup: “For busy professionals overwhelmed by email, our AI-powered email management tool saves you time and increases productivity by prioritizing important messages.”
  • Local Restaurant: “Experience authentic Italian cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients in a cozy atmosphere.”
  • Sailboat Charter Company: “Our affordable individual tickets and customizable private charters offer the perfect way to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of South Haven from Lake Michigan.
  • Eco-Friendly Product: “Reduce your carbon footprint and save money with our energy-efficient, solar-powered home appliances.”
