Diving right in

It's a big week of season finales, with organizations all over the Southland bringing out fun and exciting programs that will welcome summer with gusto.  Don't miss the much-anticipated reboot of one of Mozart's best operas, as Salastina brings Cosi into a more enlightened time.  Be sure to check out your local community choir, and enjoy the wealth of choral music that our orgs present every year.  That connective spirit gets special focus on programs like Artes Vocales' "Prisms of Our Community" on Sunday. There are also exciting new music programs like Ted Hearne's "Place", coming to Disney Hall through the LA Phil, and the Synchromy Music Festival at Boston Court.  While the calendar will have less on it as the summer takes full hold, we're going out with a bang.

Come on in... the water's fine!

OC fan tutte

Mozart's music for Così fan tutte has stood the test of time for hundreds of years. Its plot, however, hasn't aged quite so gracefully.

Librettist Vid Guerrerio's OC fan tutte leaves every note of Così fan tutte intact -- and hits refresh on the plot. Set in the Culture Wars battleground that is Orange County today, OC fan tutte replaces Così's 18th-century misogyny with current issues of gender equality and marriage rights.

Where Così fan tutte sends a message that “all women are alike” in their fickleness, OC fan tutte says that truly all of us - no matter our gender identity, orientation, or politics - have a lot more in common than we may want to admit. This up-to-the-minute adaptation exposes how much all sides have to learn about the nature and value of true fidelity, commitment, and humility.

Synchromy Opera Festival

Contemporary opera gets a double bill at Boston Court this weekend...

The Double by Vera Ivanova (Libretto by Sarah LaBrie) uses satire and comedy to question how our outward depiction of ourselves impacts our perceptions of reality, while bringing to light how much we isolate those struggling with their mental health.

Roman, a multimedia opera in two acts by Ian Dicke, questions the morality of designing intelligent machines to exhibit human-like behaviors.

Both casts are chock-full of Listers, and there are two performances to choose from.  (Get tickets asap - this venue sells out!)

Need a buddy?

Artists and orgs need help from time to time, and sometimes you just need a cache of additional experience, a sounding board and/or a brainstorming buddy.

Whether you need a single session to clarify your goals and lay out some plans, or a batch of appointments so you can stay on track with your next big project, working with a business coach can help. Book a session with Lauri online, or find a buddy or mentor who's a good fit for you. We're rooting for you, either way.
