Cold Weather Incoming
Good Afternoon -

With winter weather in the forecast for this evening, and colder than average temperatures forecasted through the first half of this weekend, please review the safety reminders below.
TO-DO

  • Keep all your windows closed any time the weather approaches freezing temperatures (<40 ° F).

  • Review winter weather safety tips. Use caution during snowy weather.

  • Keep an eye on the forecast.
Tips for Preventing Ice-Related Issues

  • Keep all windows closed.
  • Leave the heat at 65 degrees (at least).
  • Leave kitchen and bath cabinet doors open.
  • Leave sink faucets to a slow drip.

Pipes in your heating & cooling systems exposed to outside temperatures (through open windows) can freeze and burst allowing water to flow out of the units and into student rooms.

In the past this has caused damage not only to student property in the offending room, but in surrounding rooms as well. Again, we want to make sure you're aware you will be held responsible for damage due to frozen pipes when windows are left open.
Safety Tips for ALL Students

  • Be sure to use caution any time temperatures are below freezing, as slick areas may exist or reappear overnight.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings. Avoid walking under tree limbs and power lines that have ice on them.
  • It is good preparation to have a flashlight with fresh batteries in the event of a power outage.
  • Stock up on non-perishables and water ahead of the storm in case you are unable to leave home for food.
  • Plan to charge all your devices (phone, laptop, etc.) should power outages become possible.
  • During a power outage, keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. For further food safety guidance, please visit foodsafety.gov.
