April 20, 2023
Edwin Guevara, an Outreach and Education Specialist at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, will talk about conservation and problems of environmental racial inequality. He will discuss the racism and tone deafness that surrounds some efforts to be more environmentally conscious and committed without taking into consideration location, income, and cultural awareness.

Order Your WES Swag Now!
The WES Swag Shop over at Bonfire is an ongoing opportunity for members, friends, and people of good hearts to support the Washington Ethical Society's continued work to honor the worth and dignity of each person and elicit the best in one another through community.

We hope you'll check back on the WES Bonfire site regularly for new designs that will be rolling out over the coming weeks. There will be more designs for different events, a design from the SEEK hive mind, and more!
KC will be away on vacation from Monday, April 17th through Wednesday, April 26th. If you need to speak with them, please email after April 27th for the quickest response. In their absence, you can contact Robyn at robynk@ethicalsociety.org for office needs. For pastoral care needs, please reach out to the Pastoral Care Associates at pastoralcare@ethicalsociety.org. In the event of a pastoral care emergency, such as a death or sudden serious illness in the community, the Pastoral Care Associates will be able to connect you with Rev. Kimberley Debus who has agreed to provide emergency pastoral care while KC is away.
Non-binary folks and anyone who doesn't understand themself as exclusively a man or a woman are invited to participate in the 10th Annual Gender Census
As we plan for Founder's Day, we need volunteers to help make it happen. Please reach out to the WES office if you're able to help!
Free Training on Restorative Justice Offered by the AEU

Participants will learn the underlying philosophy and effectiveness of Restorative Justice, the myriad of ways our communities have embraced RJ in schools and juvenile justice, and how to be a circle keeper for your Society and beyond. We will learn how to hold space for each other and to build community and address challenging conversations through the circle process. The AEU’s goal is to have four people from each Society attend this event. Please contact Trang, trangd@ethicalsociety.org, for more info or go to website: https://aeu.org/event/2023-assembly-events/

Representing WES

We need delegates to represent our society at the American Ethical Union (AEU) Assembly and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) General Assembly this summer! Since WES is dually affiliated with both of these national organizations, we are asked to have our members attend as delegates, vote on measures or elections, and represent the WES community. If you would like more information, please email Trang, trangd@ethicalsociety.org.

Connecting with Our Neighbor Societies
The AEU is offering a $500 grant for nearby ethical societies to get together in June, July, or August! Please let us know if you’d like to help organize a super potluck or other social gathering with our nearby societies. Please contact Trang if you’d like to help with this fun project.

Need to use the WES Zoom account for your team or group's meeting?

Please send the request to Robyn at least 1 week in advance.
