A Memorable Jain Yatra to Australia and New Zealand – by JAINA Yatra Committee | |
This year, the JAINA Yatra Committee, organized a 14-day pilgrimage to five sacred Jain temples in Australia and New Zealand, marking a significant effort to connect Jains across continents. The response was overwhelming, with over 260 families expressing interest within just one week. Ultimately, nearly 100 travelers from the US joined the Yatra.
We partnered with the JAIN Alert group to enhance our capabilities and planning bandwidth, reducing individual administrative overheads.
We were honored to have Rishi Zaveri, a Michigan local and Mumuksh on the path to Diksha, accompany us. His inspiring journey resonated with many, offering our group and local sanghs a unique opportunity to learn from a non-Indian Diksharthi.
Places Visited by the Group:
| |
Derasar/Jinalayas:
- Sydney Jinalay (2)
- Melbourne Jinalay
- Brisbane Jinalay
- Auckland Jinalay (2)
Key Cities, Places, and Attractions Covered:
- Sydney: Bondi Beach, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Sea Life Aquarium, Blue Mountain, Katoomba, Echo Point
- Melbourne: MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground/Stadium), Great Ocean Road, City Tour, Phillip Island
- Queenstown: Lake Teanau, Milford Sound + Cruise .
- Rotorua: Agrodome, City Tour
- Auckland: City Tour
The Jinalayas we visited are undergoing significant revamps, with local sangh members expanding premises and facilities. Many of the Jinalays are Gruh Jinalay and with the energy of such a large visiting party, the local members were filled with new found energy to further the cause of Jainism! Many Sanghs even went out of their way to arrange meals and snacks for the traveling party and we truly value their gesture.
Overall, the Yatra was filled with learnings, spiritual and visual experiences, and bonding among fellow Jains from North America and the local region. This is a new high for the Yatra committee, and we hope to organize even better experiences in the future!
