Message from our CEO

As we move into fall, I’m excited to share that several ACTS projects are making great progress. Renovations to our Therapeutic Group Home are expected to be completed after Thanksgiving, with a move planned for December. Most importantly, we look forward to welcoming our kids back to the first floor of this newly renovated space.

Our Health and Wellness Center is moving forward as well, with construction expected to be completed around the end of the year. These improvements will create welcoming, modern spaces that support the CCBHC model by bringing outpatient behavioral health services, pharmacy, and primary care together in one coordinated setting. This integrated approach will expand access to care and better serve the needs of our community.

I’m also proud to celebrate Thomas Green, an ACTS Care Coordinator in our Hospital Bridge Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital, who was recently honored by the Florida Behavioral Health Association as the 2026 Recovery/Peer Support Specialist of the Year. Thomas’s dedication to supporting individuals during some of their most challenging moments reflects the compassion and commitment that are at the heart of ACTS. We invite you to learn more about Thomas and the positive impact he is making in our community below.

We are grateful to our staff, partners and community for continuing to support our mission to inspire hope and foster recovery.

Meet Thomas Green

For nearly 12 years, Thomas Green has been a steady, dedicated presence at ACTS. Today, he serves as Care Coordinator with ACTS Hospital Bridge program at St. Joseph’s Main Hospital, as well as St. Joesph’s North and South Hospitals. He connects patients struggling with substance use and alcohol issues to the resources and support they need.

Thomas meets patients who are suspected of having a substance use issue, working with clinicians to assess their needs. “That is when the work starts,” he says. He shares his history with patients as they share about their own alcohol or drug use. He then helps place them into detox, residential, or outpatient programs. “I provide them with options and let them choose what works best for them,” he explains.

Thomas’s path into this work is deeply personal. After losing his mother and father, and two sisters to addiction, he found his own recovery 35 years ago and has spent his career helping others do the same. “It reminds me I couldn’t help my family,” he shared, “but I can help the client now, and I have lots of resources at my disposal. I have never been able to not place an individual in treatment, if they are willing to go.”

That dedication was recognized this year when Thomas received the FBHA Recovery/Peer Support Specialist of the Year Award at BHCon. “I say with pride, I work for ACTS,” he said of the honor. Even after he eventually retires, Thomas says he’ll always promote ACTS. “We have the best executive team in Florida, and ACTS future is bright.” His outlook on recovery is simple and direct: “Life is short - why would you let a drink or drug control it?”

ACTS Clubhouse Appears on Bloom TV

Connection, belonging and hope are at the heart of ACTS Clubhouse - and recently, Bloom Tampa Bay helped share that story with the community. During the segment, ACTS Clubhouse Program Director Jennifer Mullins joined Central Florida Behavioral Health Network CEO Alan Davidson to discuss how the Clubhouse provides a supportive community where adults living with mental illness can build relationships, develop skills, and work toward personal goals. The interview highlighted the Clubhouse model, the importance of connection and the positive impact the program has on members’ lives. Agency for Community Treatment Services (ACTS) proudly serves as the auspice agency for ACTS Clubhouse. Watch the full segment: https://bit.ly/4yoE99e

Spooky & Sober: Tips for a Safe and Fun Halloween

Costumes, candy, pumpkin carving and haunted houses - Halloween can be a lot of fun without alcohol or other substances. For people in recovery, a little planning can help keep the season festive while protecting their well-being.

  • Pick your kind of spooky fun. Enjoy a costume contest, pumpkin carving, haunted house, fall festival or scary movie marathon with friends and family.
  • BYOB - Bring Your Own Beverage! Stock up on sparkling water, soda, mocktails or your favorite non-alcoholic drink so you have something festive to enjoy.
  • Know your boundaries. It’s okay to say no to an invitation if the environment could challenge your recovery. Choose celebrations where you feel safe and supported.
  • Have an escape plan. If you attend a gathering where alcohol or other substances are present, know how you’ll leave if you become uncomfortable. Having your own transportation can make it easier to stick to your plan.
  • Celebrate recovery your way. Stay in for a cozy Halloween night, decorate your space, bake seasonal treats or get creative with a one-of-a-kind costume.

Halloween should be about having fun - not putting your recovery at risk. If you or someone you know needs support with substance use, ACTS is here to help. Visit www.actsfl.org or call 813-246-4899 to learn more about treatment options.
