Dear Friends of Indigena,
We are thrilled to spotlight the exceptional Ningeokulu Teevee ("Ning") in our ongoing feature of the 2024 Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection. As a celebrated artist from the renowned Cape Dorset community, Ning is acclaimed for her innovative approach to traditional Inuit drawing and printmaking. Her impressive body of work has received both national and international recognition, securing her position as a leading figure in contemporary Inuit art.
In September 2003, Ning was honored with the prestigious Kenojuak Ashevak Memorial Award at WAG-Qaumajuq (Winnipeg Art Gallery). This award, which included a $20,000 prize, a residency at WAG-Qaumajuq, and a solo exhibition, celebrates excellence in Inuit art and supports the artist’s career and creative development. She also has been granted the Governor General's Award, given show gratitude to outstanding individuals, teams and organizations and to inspire all Canadians to excellence.
Ning’s artistic range is both diverse and captivating, featuring realistic depictions of birds, fantastical owls, everyday scenes, and legendary figures such as Sedna, the Inuit sea goddess.
Since 2004, over 150 of her drawings have been translated into prints for the Annual Print Collections.
This year’s collection showcases some of Ning’s most innovative and engaging works. We invite you to explore her prints and the works of other very talented artists featured in the 2024 Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection. Please click on the link below.
