Topics include: Washington DC's two-airport system boast record-breaking 2025; Dulles Master Plan charts a comprehensive, modern plan forward; Concourse E completion grows closer as IAD prepares for expansion; Federal funds support runway reconstruction and safety enhancements at both IAD and DCA; Sustainable aviation fuel production and deployment takes flight in 2025; Dulles gains new clubs and lounges; Airports solutions redefined by agentic AI, RapidPrint and other technology pilots; MWAA recognized for leadership development and succession planning initiatives; Airports and business directories.

JUST THE FACTS

Knowing the facts is always important, so the "News from the Tarmac" feels compelled to share this. In a recent post on LinkedIn, Chryssa Westerlund, Executive VP and Chief Financial Officer at MWAA, wrote the following message and chart.

The headlines shout "DULLES AIRFARES SOME OF THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION" about every 6 months. Here are the facts:

• Dulles and Reagan airports are unique in the nation in that they function as a two-airport system with Dulles being the region’s primary long-haul airport and Reagan being almost exclusively short haul.

• The farther you fly, the higher the cost of the ticket.

• Dulles is in the top 6 airports in the country for average distance flown so it would be expected that the average ticket price would also be on the higher end.

• In fact, when you look at revenue per passenger mile, which takes out the impact of the difference in flight length, Dulles is ranked 32nd out of the top 50 airports for the 12 months ended June 2026.
