Dear Friends,

2024 has been a year of growth for Loudoun Hunger Relief (LHR). The need for our services has increased 25% compared to 2023, and we are moving more food through our doors than ever before. In fact, LHR provided almost $5 million dollars worth of food to those in need in Loudoun in 2024, up from about $4.6 million in 2023.

Whether you volunteered your time, donated food, or contributed financially, you helped us keep our doors open and our shelves stocked. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. But none of this would be possible without your support.

We were deeply honored this year to receive both the Nonprofit of the Year Award and the Small Business of the Year Award from the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce. These awards reflect the hard work and dedication of everyone who has shown up for LHR—from our donors and volunteers to our staff and partners. These honors belong to all of you as much as they do to us.

In 2025, we anticipate various changes and challenges. We are planning to open a second pantry location in Sterling to largely replace the outdoor mobile markets we have been running there for the past five years. Please stay tuned for updates on the expected opening, which will likely be in the fall of 2025.

We are also developing new ways to ensure that our neighbors have access to the resources they need not just to survive, but to thrive. One of our new initiatives is already in progress: we are reaching out to senior adults who visit for food to connect them with any services they may be eligible to receive. We will continue to expand our programming and support for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Thank you for always showing up—for your neighbors, our community, and those who need it most.

LHR Weather Policy

Wondering if LHR is open to receive donations? Check the website at loudounhunger.org. We always post weather notices right at the top of the home page.

We ask that you please not leave food donations outside when we are closed. Food on the ground attracts animals, and unless a team member gets to it before the squirrels do, we can't save the donation.

The LoCo Ice Bowl Fundraiser Series is run by our LoCo Disc Golf Club to benefit LHR. The series of six events kicks off in early December and will culminate with the 2025 R'Ice Bowl at Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club on February 23rd.

The Fourteenth Annual LoCo Ice Bowl and Chili Cook-Off lived up to its name on January 25th, with temperatures in the teens in the morning. Many thanks to Morven Park for hosting and to Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk for kicking off the event.

During the tournament, several judges including Algonkian District Supervisor Juli Briskman, staff from Loudoun PRCS, Loudoun Now, Vanish Farmwood Brewery, Flying Ace Brewery and Distillery, and Morven Park sampled 25 chilis and chose a winner.

Since 2012, LoCo Disc Golf has raised more than $200,000 for Loudoun Hunger Relief. The LoCo Disc Golf Club can't stay away from the subzero temps. Their donations over the years sponsored the LHR Leesburg Market freezer, and they are enjoying their contribution to the market in the photo above.

Their efforts were also featured in Disc Golfer Magazine. We can't wait to see what the final totals are for this year! Shout out to our local Disc Golfers for their amazing support!
