Ashton Jordan (AJ) is happy to be part of the HCLHIC team to promote health equity for all in Howard County. He has worked for the Howard County Health Department, assisting with content creation, communication campaigns, and community events. Ashton received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Health Communication from Michigan State University and a Master of Science in Public Health in Health Education & Health Communication from Johns Hopkins. HCHD Offers Free Flu Vaccine Clinics
The Howard County Health Department encourages people of all ages to get a seasonal flu shot from a healthcare provider, local pharmacy, retailer or big box store. Starting on October 17th, HCHD will be welcoming walk-ins with

Updated COVID Booster Targeting Omicron Subvariants
The FDA and CDC have authorized the Moderna (18 and older) and Pfizer (12 and older) Omicron-specific booster shots. The HCHD is offering a supply of this updated vaccine. Vaccine is also available at local pharmacies, urgent care centers, and retail stores. You can visit the Maryland Vaccine Locater to find a vaccination location convenient to you. HCHD Honored at Rise to the Challenge Awards
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball bestowed nearly 100 ‘Rise to the Challenge’ awards during a ceremony at Merriweather Post Pavilion on September 15, 2022 that recognized community members who gave selflessly at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Expansion of Howard Community College's Reproductive Health Clinic
The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) and Howard Community College (HCC) announced the expansion of services at HCC’s Reproductive Health Clinic. Several services will expand over the course of the next several months.

What's Your Why Campaign from CCDPC
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) launched the What’s your Why? campaign in August to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, and maintain a healthy weight in women of childbearing age between the ages of 18 and 44 years. This campaign includes messages for college students, working women, mothers, and persons with disabilities. Walktober 2022 is Here!
The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) spearheaded a collaborative initiative to bring together partners to create a calendar of accessible walking/moving events to be held across the County.

Columbia Ranks Best City in Maryland for People Living with Disabilities
Columbia was recognized as the Best City for People with Disabilities in Maryland by WalletHub. During the past four years, HoCo has provided resources to building Patuxent Commons, a major housing project that is a national model for housing adults with disabilities; opened Laura’s Place, a first-of-its-kind playground that embraces inclusive activities for all; and upgraded its website to include accessibility.

The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) Bureau of Behavioral Health is conducting a survey through October 14, 2022 to better understand how Behavioral Health Services could be improved in Howard County.
