CALL OUT TO SUPPORT JDTC

The Guam Chamber has been a proud partner of the Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Program since its inception in Guam in 2002 and has seen firsthand how this collaborative approach to addressing drug addiction and recidivism has positively impacted the lives of thousands of youth and family members and made them productive members and loyal employees in and among our community.

Guam Chamber JDTC Life Skills Workshops

We are seeking support from Chamber members to provide one-hour life skills workshops. There are four categories: Work- or Job-Oriented Skills, Life Skills or Personal Interests, Self-Esteem and Goal-Oriented Skills, and Sports & Health Development-Oriented Skills. We are seeking member partners to provide these all-important life skills workshops throughout the year.

Incentives

At the Judge’s discretion, incentives are handed out to JDTC participants as a response to progress in the program. Chamber members have provided gas cards, movie passes, meal coupons, and more. If you are interested in providing incentives for this program, your gift(s) will contribute to supporting the recovery of youth enrolled in the program.

As you can see, there are a number of ways to support the JDTP and our partnership with the Judiciary of Guam. When a business, community, or family supports a program such as the juvenile drug treatment court, the impact is felt by more than just one person. We ALL Rise.

Please call the Chamber office or reach out to Catherine Castro to learn more about how you can make a difference in the lives of our at-risk youth.

U.S. CHAMBER UPDATES

Under Attack by Socialists, Free Enterprise Thrives

At a time when confidence in many institutions is being tested, Gallup offers a reminder that Americans continue to see the value of free enterprise and small business.

‌

By the numbers:

  • 81% of Americans view free enterprise positively.
  • 95% view small businesses favorably.

Why it matters: Free enterprise has been the foundation of American growth, innovation, and rising living standards and continues to earn broad support from voters across the political spectrum.

‌

  • But: A growing anti-free enterprise movement treats successful businesses as problems to be managed rather than as drivers of solutions and innovations that improve people’s lives.

Be smart: Optimism for free enterprise is showing up in behavior, not just polls. Gen Z - the so-called "lazy generation" - is launching businesses at a record pace. Applications from young founders surged 66% year-over-year in June, more than double the growth rate for Millennials and Gen X, according to the Bank of America Institute. Six years ago, there were 26 Gen X founders for every Gen Z upstart. Now it's four to one.

‌

What we’re doing: Through The New Fight for Free Enterprise, the U.S. Chamber is working to help people see free enterprise for what it is: not a perfect system, but the surest path to opportunity, affordability, and upward mobility for all.

‌

Bottom line: Americans continue to place their confidence in economic freedom and the small businesses that support communities, drive growth, and support jobs. Read More

Innovation Cut Heart Attack Deaths 89%

American ingenuity has led to heart attack mortality falling by 89% since 1970—from 354 deaths per 100,000 Americans to just 40 in 2022. A University of Chicago study commissioned by the U.S. Chamber, Estimating the Full Value of Medical Innovation, found that has resulted in $13.7 trillion in health value over 30 years.

‌

Why it matters: Workers are staying healthy through their most productive years, and parents are present for milestones they might otherwise have missed. At the same time, innovations in fighting heart disease reduce health care costs while improving employees’ productivity.

‌

Big picture: Policymakers now face a choice: protect the ecosystem that saved millions of lives or trade it away and put patients at risk.

‌

  • Proposals like Most-Favored Nation pricing would import foreign government price controls, reducing U.S. life sciences R&D spending by nearly 19% and cutting clinical trial activity by up to 75%.
  • The result: The next breakthrough is delayed or never developed at all.

Looking ahead: Patients in the future will count on researchers to reduce deaths from heart failure, arrhythmias, and hypertensive heart disease. That only happens if the innovation environment that has saved millions of lives stays intact. Read More
