FEATURING FORMER DANCE THEATER OF HARLEM PRINCIPAL DANCER & FOUNDER OF UPTOWN DANCE ACADEMY-- MS ROBIN
DID YOU KNOW? PRINCE DONATED 250K TO MS. ROBIN'S SCHOOL, AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF MISTY COPELAND AFTER SEEING A PRODUCTION OF MS ROBIN'S AMAZING RENDITION OF THE NUTCRACKER.
There are roles in the production for different age groups. Senior roles must also take Pointe, Ballet & Acro. Select students from our Hip-hop and West African dance classes will be able to perform in the production. This is a new take on a classic tale that focuses on Ballet, but also includes other styles of dance.
THURSDAYS 6PM - 8:30PM , SEPT - JANUARY
$500 WHEN YOU ENROLL BY SEPT 7
$600 AFTER SEPT 7
BLACK HISTORY & DANCE HISTORY FACT: THE NUTCRACKER BALLET IS BASED ON THE VERSION OF THE TALE WRITTEN BY FRENCH AUTHOR OF AFRICAN & HATIAN DESCENT-- ALEXANDER DUMAS. HE IS ALSO THE AUTHOR OF THE THREE MUSKETEERS.
DESPITE DISCRIMINATION AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE, DUMAS WAS ABLE TO RISE ABOVE RACISM & ACHIEVE GREAT SUCCESS. DUMAS REVISED THE ORIGINAL NUTCRACKER, WRITTEN BY RUSSIAN AUTHOR ET HOFFMAN, AND MADE IT MORE APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN.
DUE TO INADEQUATE TEACHING OF BLACK HISTORY & ANEMIC DIVERSITY IN CURRICULUMS IN SCHOOLS-- MOST PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THE BELOVED CLASSICAL BALLET IS BASED ON A BOOK BY A BLACK MAN WHOSE GRANDMOTHER WAS AN ENSLAVED AFRICAN IN HAITI.
WHAT AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT. EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ALEXANDER DUMAS. HIS SON WAS ALSO A FAMOUS BLACK, FRENCH AUTHOR.
Masks are required at our studio. Many thanks for helping to keep our community safe.
