October Students of the Month
ELISE OERTEL
Class of 2022

Senior, Elise Oertel’s favorite classes at North have been all of her English classes. Elise loves the opportunities these classes have given her to be creative and express herself within her own writing, as well as the capacity to expand on renowned authors' works to decipher their deeper underlying messages within their pieces. Elise is involved in Unified, where she helped with bowling, attended Unified social meetings, and participated in Friendship Day. She has also been involved in the Special Olympics and is helping Ms. Rose plan and run the whole event with two other peers this year. Elise has participated in volleyball all four years and is one of the three varsity captains. She volunteers every summer in the Jr. Lions program to coach young volleyball athletes. Elise also participated in Relay for Life and is a Survival Committee Leader. She is a member of National Honor Society and Social Studies National Honor Society, as well as a Teen Pep leader and a peer in Unified Leadership. Elise has played travel club volleyball at CJVA for five years. She has volunteered at the Midland School for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and helped start up their STEM program. Elise volunteers for Grow a Row, coached for the Union Township Volley for Vets Fundraiser, and various other community service events through her church. She is currently employed at JJ Scoops. Elise’s favorite North Hunterdon memories involve the clubs and events she was involved in, like Relay for Life, Friendship Day, and Unified Bowling. She thinks it is amazing when all of her peers come together with a common goal in mind of being inclusive or raising money for a great cause and having a positive impact on the community while bonding and having fun throughout the process. These events really unite the school. Elise also loves the Jungle experiences because the school has so much spirit. Next year, Elise is applying to many colleges all across the country, but her dream is to attend the University of Michigan or the University of Washington and study environmental sciences. Her experience at North has taken her through such an immense period of growth and has sculpted the very person she is today. Elise would never take back the last four years, and appreciates every one of them for maturing her from the scared little freshman she was four years ago, and teaching her valuable lessons that will set her up for success in her future.
CONNOR KINNAIRD
Class of 2022

Senior, Connor Kinnaird is Co-President of the French Club and is on the executive board of the Science Honor Society. Connor is also currently involved in National Honor Society, English Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, HOSA, and Brain Bee Club. He also plans on joining History Honor Society and French Honor Society. Connor has played soccer throughout high school with Hunterdon Football Club, was a camp counselor at the Clinton Township Summer Rec program, and is currently working at Stanton Ridge Golf and Country Club. His favorite class at North Hunterdon was Honors Chemistry with Mrs. Post. This was the first science class that he truly loved and was the first science class that sparked his interest and fascination with all aspects of science. Honors Chemistry not only sparked his inspiration for science, but also allowed a safe and fun environment where he could learn and experiment. One of Connor’s favorite memories at NHHS was the Junior Prom dance outside. It was not how he imagined it being, but it was great being able to go and see all of his classmates after the long COVID year. Connor also fondly remembers everything from Mrs. Post’s classroom, holding a snake and a bearded dragon in Mr. Pritchett’s classroom, dissecting an eye, brain, and heart in Biomed, and playing uber-competitive games of speedball and matball in Phys. Ed. class. Overall, "nothing beats the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school football." Connor would describe his experience at North as, "Lit, Crazy, Movie!" For college next year, Connor has received an acceptance from the University of Leeds to study Psychology in England. He has not made any decisions yet, but this is where he plans to go at the moment. Connor plans to go back to England to reconnect with his family as he immigrated to America at a young age.
October Athletes of the Month
NICOLENA CRISOLOGO
Class of 2022

Senior, Nicolena Crisologo has been cheerleading for 13 years. Nicolena’s strongest skills in Cheerleading are stunting and tumbling. She cheers at the position of a side base. The team had their first crowd performance at their showcase in the Gold Gym on October 20th. They won their first competition at Phillipsburg High School on October 24th and won the Skylands competition on October 27th, for the first time in nine years. The team is a 2021 State Champion team and they placed second in the nation in February of 2021. Nicolena plans on cheerleading at a four-year college and majoring in Forensic Science. Her top two schools are the University of Central Florida and James Madison University. Nicolena is also on the NHHS Varsity Softball team and is an active member of National Honor Society, Interact Club, and Unified. North Hunterdon High School has opened up many opportunities for Nicolena. North Cheer has inspired her the past four years and will continue to inspire her for the rest of her life.
EMILY WOLTERS
Class of 2022

Senior, Emily Wolters has been playing volleyball competitively for seven years. Emily plays club volleyball outside of school for Central Jersey Volleyball Academy. She is a setter on the court. Some of Emily’s strongest skills are setting and serving. This year, the team had participated in a high-stakes game against Williamstown. Their goals are to try and win the county title in the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Tournament and the Conference Title. Emily hit a personal record of 500 assists this season. She plans on playing club volleyball in college. She also plans on playing lots of intramurals in college. Outside of volleyball, Emily participates in Interact Club and is in National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and History Honor Society. She says her experience at North Hunterdon has been a roller coaster ride. With only having one year of normal high school, she has had many different experiences with online learning, with only half the students attending school and having a volleyball season in the spring. Emily plans to apply to the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tennessee. She has already been accepted to Iowa State University and plans on majoring in Nursing.
