From the Pastor's Desk

Dear SCAPC Congregation,

Thank you for all the ways you show up as a congregation with your gifts and resources, with your presence and commitment, with your voices and your love of neighbors. Last week, our library was overflowing with donations to the Jefferson Presbyterian Food Bank in support of those facing food insecurity and hunger in our community in light of the recent government shutdown. Thank you for showing up for a class of 25 confirmands with standing room only in Sunday worship. Thank you for showing up to celebrate 105 years of ministry in this place. Thank you for your flexibility with this organ installation. Thank you for welcoming over 40 new members into our midst.

And thank you for supporting our stewardship campaign for 2026. We have an opportunity to meet our goal of $1.7 million and are making good progress. If you have not yet made your pledge for 2026, we need your help to get there. Please contact Emily Fleshman (emily@scapc.org) to do so. Every gift matters and adds to the beloved community God is at work forming and equipping in our midst. Thank you.

Gratefully yours,

Chris Currie

New Sunday School Class:

Mysteries Around Christ's Birth

November 30-December 21 | Land Building Riverside Room

Led by Sandra Jenkins and Ashley Brown

Mysterious guiding stars, virgin births, dream warnings, angel messengers and ancient prophecies! This class will explore the more mysterious themes of Jesus’s birth story. We will examine the important role historical context plays when studying Scripture and how to engage our questions surrounding these biblical mysteries.

Class 1: The Mystery of Angelic Prophesy

Class 2: The Mystery of the Virgin Birth

Class 3: The Mystery of Guiding Stars

Class 4: The Mystery of Dream Warnings

Jesse Tree Advent Devotionals

This year we are centering our Advent Devotionals on the Jesse Tree Symbols and Bible Stories. A Jesse Tree is a way of preparing for Advent by journeying through the stories on Jesus’s family tree. Each day of Advent, there will be a Bible story about someone in Jesus’s family and an ornament symbolizing their story. The tree will show us how, through many generations, God prepared for Jesus to be born. Printed devotionals can be found at the Frampton Fellowship Hall entrance.

Advent Diaper Drive

During the season of Advent, November 30-December 24, as we prepare our hearts to welcome Jesus in our lives once again, we are collecting items that remind us of the needs of baby Jesus. We will be collecting diapers (baby and adult sizes, open packages acceptable) and period products that will support our community ministry partner, Junior League Diaper Bank, to help uplift families in our community. Collection bins are by the State Street entrance.

Luminary Memorials & Honorariums

On December 21-25, pathways of luminaries, given in memory or honor of loved ones, will be lit in front of the church. Luminaries cost $15/each and can be purchased in honor or memory of a family member, friend, or even pet. Acknowledgements for each memorial and honorarium will be included in the bulletins on December 21 and Christmas Eve, as well as online and in The Quatrefoil e-newsletter. Click here to place your order. The order deadline is December 14.

White Gift Is Underway!

The White Gift tree will be in the Chapel this Sunday! A host of ornaments have been hung, each with gift requests for families in need from the St. Thomas Community Health Center, Raintree Children & Family Services, and the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter (NOWCS). We invite you to pick up an ornament this Sunday. Please note that gifts for NOWCS should not be wrapped. If you are unable to pick up an ornament, please consider bringing unwrapped gifts of the following: sports equipment, Foot Locker gift cards, board games, and art supplies. These gifts will also be distributed to NOWCS. Please bring your gifts to be dedicated on Sunday, December 14 during 10:30 a.m. worship.

Family Nativity Display

On December 7-21, a display of nativity scenes leant by our church members will be shown in the Phifer Library. Come see the many ways the Christ family is portrayed! If you wish to display your nativity, please click here for details and to sign up. The deadline to sign up and set up is December 4.

Youth Parent Presentation on Social Media

PATH612 (Parents Abiding Together in Hope) had it’s first discussion group this past weekend. The topic was Parenting Digital Natives: Tweens, Teens and Social Media. Led by technology leader Lexi Daly from Trinity School, the presentation gave practical information for helping your child to become a good digital citizen. If you would like more information, her presentation slides may be accessed below. If you have any ideas for future topics of discussion, please contact Michele Murphy.
