Expanding, Connecting, and Creating Across the American Landscape

Expansion isn’t just about covering ground; it’s about reaching further and experiencing the depth that exploration reveals. Part two of this journey to Montana stayed true to that truth. I drove through California, Nevada, Utah, and Idaho—each state offering its own terrain, its own tempo—before arriving in Big Sky Country. As an artist, explorer, and cultural conduit, I travel not only to share my work but to engage with the texture of a place—the landscape, the community, the energy. Driving remains one of the most visceral ways to encounter this country. From the sentience of rural stretches to the rhythm of small-town America to the raw surge of cities, you feel the pulse of the nation in motion. One truth remains: people are people. Whether crossing vast remote stretches, pausing in tight-knit towns, or immersing in the hum of a city, the challenges shift—but they’re always present. And so are the solutions, if you meet them with focus, heart, and relentless dedication.

My time in Whitefish began with a personal non-negotiable: reconnect with the water. As a Minnesota lake girl through and through, I never pass up the chance to plunge into something cold, clear, and alive, and Whitefish Lake, glacier-fed and soul-stirring, delivered. That first swim isn’t about novelty; it’s a ritual. A reset. A reconnection with my center. A reminder of who I am and where I come from. Water has always been my anchor, my return point.

Throughout the art festival, I connected with so many curious, thoughtful, open-hearted individuals from across the country—people who spent real time with the work. Watching others experience the art remains one of my greatest privileges—how they move around it, pause, return, lean in. One moment to celebrate involved a dynamic, and, I must say, beautiful couple who were drawn to a piece from The Atmospheric Collection, created especially with this Montana journey in mind. They circled back multiple times, called over her sister (love sisters) for another perspective, and thoughtfully imagined where the piece might live in their new mountain home. Serious and intentional in their appreciation, they were deliberate in creating a space shaped with grace, beauty, and love. To have one of my works become part of that story is a profound honor I carry with deep gratitude.

Cherry season was in full swing, and yes—I indulged. Those roadside bags of fresh, sweet fruit became a daily treat, turning me into a sticky-fingered maniac with zero self-control. There’s something about cherries: fleeting, lush, and utterly impossible to eat neatly. Life is vivid—unfiltered, messy, and alive. Cherries stain your fingers, just like the best art and the most honest living: they leave a mark. The drive itself—long stretches of solitude broken by gas and coffee stops, brief exchanges with strangers—set the tone. Somewhere between mountains and mile markers, the most unfiltered, necessary conversations surfaced. No performance. No distraction. Just truth, movement, and the open road.

As we departed Whitefish, the sun was already up. Entering Flathead National Forest, the sharp morning light sliced through the trees, casting bold, cinematic shadows across the road. It was disorienting—beautiful in a way that demanded full attention. We moved through the denser, hushed landscapes of Lolo National Forest, then into Helena National Forest, where the terrain opened up once again. Each forest held its own presence, its own emotional weight. Driving through them reminded me how important it is to pay attention—to the land, to the shifting light, to the people around us. We’re not just passing through; we’re responsible. It’s our duty to notice what matters, to give voice to what’s overlooked, and to stay awake in a world that too often encourages sleepwalking.

This is what expansion feels like: movement with purpose, connection that lingers, risk that sharpens, and rituals that ground. Exhibiting near Glacier National Park was beyond delightful—surrounded by raw beauty and deep skies.

But the journey doesn’t end here.

Next stop on the West Coast Beauty JRO ART TOUR: the ever-inspiring State of Washington! Washingtonians just get it—kindness woven into their style, soul, and sharp eye for extraordinary art. Washington is a stunner: lush, moody, alive, and glowing with that unmistakable Northwest spark.

With each stop, the journey deepens—another road, another body of water, another chance to connect, to leave a mark, and to carry JRO ART into new landscapes with intention, curiosity, and clarity.

How to Commission Custom Artwork with Heart and Confidence - A Guide from Artist Jennifer Rae Ochs I'm honored to share my latest published piece with Purgula: How to Commission Custom Artwork with Heart and Confidence. This guide offers a thoughtful look at the process of creating custom artwork-from discovering the personal stories behind each piece to the beauty of true creative collaboration.

Transformative Connections Through Art and Humanity

Transformative Connections Through Art and Humanity

As an artist, there are moments when a collector’s connection to my work transcends the canvas. It becomes something deeper—an exchange of energy, a shared perspective, an unspoken understanding of what it means to exist in this world with purpose. J & M are one such extraordinary couple. When they acquired my artwork, they not only welcomed it into their carefully curated sanctuary, but they also welcomed me. What unfolded was more than a studio visit or an art delivery—it was an exploration of humanity itself.

Stepping into their home was like entering a living reflection of their souls. Every object and detail, was chosen with purpose, executed with love and imbued with meaning. Their space was more than a home; it was a testament to the intentional life they’ve built—a sanctuary for their spiritual path.

J & M work in the field of addiction recovery, offering hope and healing to those in some of life’s darkest moments. As we toured their home, the conversation naturally gravitated toward the profound nature of their work. It quickly became apparent that their purpose in life is not just to help people recover but to restore dignity, to remind others of their worth, and to be a beacon of compassion in a world that often forgets its most vulnerable.

One of the most remarkable qualities of those who dedicate themselves to the care of others is their ability to hold space—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. J & M embody this completely. They offer unwavering compassion in the face of suffering, standing beside those in their most fragile states without expectation. In a world that can often feel transactional, their work is a reminder that true service is selfless, and true healing requires deep human connection.

As I left their presence, I felt an overwhelming energy—a force of purpose and clarity that I will carry with me. Our time together distilled into one undeniable truth: it is our duty to cultivate the highest, most authentic expression of ourselves and share it with the world.

When we create, when we heal, when we love with an open heart, we are not meant to keep these experiences locked away. Rather, we are called to extend our essence outward—to uplift, to inspire, and to contribute something meaningful to the collective spirit of humanity. Our talents, insights, kindness, and even our struggles are not merely ours to hold; they are threads in the great tapestry of existence, woven together through connection and shared purpose.

To give of ourselves fully is an act of courage—an acknowledgment that we are part of something greater. In this sacred exchange, we transcend the self and step into a profound unity with the world. We become vessels of something divine, carrying forth the beauty, truth, and love that the universe has entrusted to us.

I am truly grateful that our paths intertwined—it was no coincidence, but something meant to be. Thank you, J & M.

The Atmospheric Collection by JRO ART

The Atmospheric Collection by JRO ART: A Journey Into Quiet Elegance

As The Atmospheric Collection continues to evolve, it invites you to explore a world where simplicity, depth, and earthy tones blend seamlessly. In my creative process, atmosphere isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a dynamic force that shapes the narrative of each piece. This collection captures the subtle dance of light, space, and mood, offering you a chance to pause and appreciate the quiet beauty of the natural world.

At the heart of this collection is a thoughtfully selected palette of taupe, cream, whites, greys, and earthy hues. These colors, often associated with neutrality, carry a quiet strength. Taupe’s grounding, earthy tone and cream’s warm embrace create a sense of calm and stability. White and grey, with their cool serenity, reflect the delicate interplay of light and shadow, evoking nature’s most peaceful moments.

This palette reminds me of the stillness of twilight—a time when the world slows and invites reflection. These colors are more than just pigments; they embody the emotions of balance, harmony, and quiet contemplation. The simplicity of these shades offers a profound invitation to experience the elegance of the world in its most serene state.

Creating each piece in The Atmospheric Collection involves a deliberate, thoughtful approach. Every brushstroke is made with intention, building layers of texture and depth that allow the artwork to unfold naturally. It is in this process that the atmosphere of each piece comes to life, offering viewers an opportunity to connect with the art on a deeply personal level.

Beyond their visual appeal, the earthy tones of taupe, cream, white, and grey carry timeless versatility. These colors are ideal not only for art but also for interior design and fashion. Their ability to complement a range of hues creates a sense of openness, making spaces feel more inviting and serene. These tones add warmth while fostering tranquility, perfect for those seeking an environment of sophistication and balance.

In a world that can often feel fast-paced and overwhelming, The Atmospheric Collection serves as a reminder to slow down, breathe, and embrace the beauty in simplicity. Through this collection, I hope to inspire you to find peace in life’s quiet moments and reconnect with the earthy elegance that surrounds us. - JRO

I Find Beautiful by JRO ART

Earthly Neutrals: Infusing Calm and Elegance into Your Space with JRO ART

As an artist, I’ve always been drawn to the colors and textures that speak to the earth—the shades that feel like they’re pulled directly from nature itself. Earthy tones like beige, cream, terracotta, ochre, browns, and sage, have always captivated me for their warmth and depth, and in 2025, they are becoming an essential part of interior design. The Earthly Neutrals trend reflects this very connection, with these hues forming the foundation of serene, grounded interiors that promote tranquility and comfort. These colors offer endless possibilities for creating spaces that are calming, welcoming, and deeply connected to the natural world.

My own work, particularly my one-of-a-kind mixed media paintings, embraces this ethos. By using earthy neutrals in my paintings, I can capture the layered beauty of nature while offering a versatile palette that transforms any room. Earthbound hues are not only visually appealing but emotionally resonant, making them a perfect complement to this style. Each piece is an invitation to bring a sense of peace and connection to the space, grounding the viewer in a calming, natural atmosphere.

The Power of Earthly Neutrals

There’s a reason earthy neutrals have become so popular—they bring a grounding and calming effect to interiors, echoing the beauty of nature and promoting a sense of well-being. Colors like terracotta, with its rich, warm undertones, remind us of sunbaked earth; ochre, with its golden hues, brings the warmth of fields of wheat and sun-drenched landscapes. Sage, soft and muted, reflects the tranquility of green landscapes and misty mornings, while cream, beige, and browns add a touch of softness and warmth, evoking the timeless elegance of natural surroundings. These earthy tones together create a harmonious palette that feels like a deep exhale—a space where we can relax, reset, and feel truly at home.

What’s beautiful about earthy neutrals is their versatility. They can serve as base colors in a minimalist space or as accents that add depth and warmth to bolder color schemes. Whether you're designing a sleek modern home, embracing a rustic aesthetic, or leaning into a more bohemian or traditional style, these tones work beautifully across a range of design approaches, creating an inviting and serene environment.

Incorporating JRO’s Mixed Media Paintings into Earthy Neutral Spaces

My mixed media paintings, offer a unique way to bring earthy neutrals into your space. Each piece in my Atmospheric Collection is built layer by layer, creating depth and texture that mirrors the complexity of nature. The use of organic colors like creams, beiges, browns, greys, terracotta, ochre, and sage, allows these works to seamlessly integrate into interiors embracing this design movement, while still standing out as a striking focal point. The combination of these shades creates a rich, grounded atmosphere, adding both warmth and sophistication to any room.

Here are some ideas on how to bring my artwork into your design:

Create a Focal Point with Earthy Textures

My mixed media paintings are perfect for creating a focal point in a room designed around earthy neutrals. Because each piece features sculpted layers, the texture alone adds a dynamic element to the space. Place one of these pieces above a neutral-toned sofa, or use it as the anchor for a statement wall in a living room or bedroom. The layers and earthy tones will complement the serene, grounded vibe of the space while adding depth and interest.

Pair with Natural Materials

Earthy neutrals truly come to life when paired with natural materials. In 2025, this trend emphasizes minimalism and organic textures—think wood, stone, linen, and ceramics. When you pair one of my mixed media paintings with these materials, the result is a cohesive, organic look. A painting with layers of earthy tones might sit beautifully above a wooden dining table or against a stone fireplace, echoing the materials in the room while offering a subtle, artistic touch.

Accentuate Cozy, Minimalist Spaces

One of the most appealing aspects of earthy neutrals is their ability to create cozy, inviting spaces without overwhelming the senses. These tones, combined with soft textiles and warm lighting, emphasize comfort and well-being. My artwork, with its blend of muted earth tones, complements this style effortlessly. Imagine a neutral-toned reading nook with soft, textured blankets, earthy ceramics, and one of my warm neutral paintings hanging on the wall. The space would feel peaceful, welcoming, and grounded in nature.

Layer with Warm Lighting

Earthy neutral interiors are all about creating warmth and comfort, and lighting plays a big role in achieving that. Warm lighting, whether from soft pendants, floor lamps, or natural sunlight, enhances the calming effect of these tones. When paired with my paintings, which also reflect warmth through their use of grounded shades, the result is a beautifully serene atmosphere. The layers of paint in my work interact with light in unique ways, shifting and evolving depending on the time of day and the lighting in the room, making each piece feel alive and connected to its surroundings.

The Essence of Well-Being in Design

Incorporating earthy neutrals into your space is about more than just following a color trend—it’s about creating an environment that promotes well-being and tranquility. The calming nature of these tones, when combined with minimalist design, natural materials, and cozy elements, offers a serene and inviting atmosphere. By integrating one of my mixed media pieces into this design, you’re not only adding a unique work of art but also deepening the connection to nature and enhancing the overall mood of the space.

As we look toward 2025, I’m excited to see how earthy neutrals continue to influence this design aesthetic and how my artwork can play a role in bringing these serene, grounded spaces to life. Together, we can create environments that are not only visually stunning but also calming and restorative—a true reflection of the beauty found in the natural world.

Each custom project is an honor, a new experimental adventure to shake things up with renewed intention to create one of a kind uniqueness in harmony with the collector’s environment, bringing forth the spirit of the space. Ultimately, our home is where our mind reflects, body rejuvenates, and spirit soars.
