GL Scholarship Recipients

Andrew Couto

NJ Institute of Technology (NJIT)

Major: Civil Engineering & Finance

In Andrew’s essay, he recalled the moment of spontaneity that led him to join the local volunteer fire department. Once fully immersed, Andrew decided he wanted to dedicate his life in service to his community. Andrew said, “Being a firefighter involves consistently asking oneself, ‘How can I help.’”

Demonstrating his bravery and dedication, Andrew is choosing “to commit to a selfless pursuit of helping others,” and he hopes others will continue asking what they can do for the community around them.

Avery Saturnia

Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA

Major: Environmental Studies

In her application essay, Avery talked about being neighbors with Annie and the impact their friendship had on her life. She recalled the “genuine happiness” she felt in childhood and the desire to embody it and pass it along to others. Avery shared details of her experience volunteering in Costa Rica, working in an underprivileged school where she spent her free time trying to bring laughter and playfulness to the children there.

Overall, Avery shared a lesson that “genuine connection comes from letting your inner child laugh without restraint” which has made a difference in her approach to life.

Both Avery and Andrew have demonstrated a commitment to thinking of others before themselves. Bringing joy, kindness, support and safety to people in their community aligns perfectly with the mission of the Annabelle Forever Young Foundation and we are honored to play a small role in pursuit of their future dreams.

Deposit Scholarship Recipients

This was our first year awarding scholarships to seniors at Deposit High School in Deposit, NY in the amount of $1,000 each. Deposit is near and dear to our hearts as it is Paul's hometown and he is a graduate of the high school.

Kyleigh Schmitz - Valedictorian

Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY

Major: Psychology

In Kyleigh’s essay she talked about how something as familiar as kindness can be impactful enough to save lives. She discussed the importance of empathy and acceptance in mental health and how spreading kindness “encourages others around us to accept and be kind.”

Kyleigh talked about her desire to “live in a world where everyone loves themselves and the people around them” and that there is no better feeling in the world than being able to say, “I helped someone today.”

Valerie Shomin

Mercy College

Major: Nursing

In her essay, Valerie focused on the idea that helping others can be much more rewarding than thinking about oneself. She talked about the gratification of creating “happiness and hope” in others. Through her volunteer experience, Valerie learned about “paying it forward” and how helping someone in your community can create a chain of kindness as people continue to pay forward the gifts that have been selflessly given to them.

Valerie truly believes in the power of community service and its ability to decrease conflict and negativity in the world. She hopes to continue her service and spread the values of kindness and compassion for others while in college.

Kyleigh and Valerie were both so thrilled to receive this acknowledgement. Their essays reflected the mission of our foundation with grace and humility. We are so happy to support them and wish them all the best in their new endeavors.
