ATEC Report Says FAA Issued a Record Number of Mechanic Certificates in 2025

According to the 2026 Pipeline Report published by the Aviation Technician Education Council and Oliver Wyman, the certificated mechanic population in the United States is growing as efforts to develop more skilled workers from multiple sources are paying dividends. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a record 11,103 new mechanic certificates in 2025, which is 23.2% more than in 2024 and the highest annual total since the agency began publishing the data.

The report also noted that the aviation mechanic population continues to grow older, with 44% over the age of 60, a 3% increase over 2025's report. The aging population will create a retirement wave during the next 10 years that is expected to include more than 39,000 mechanics. More...

2026 Rate and Labor Survey Results Now Available to AEA Members

The annual AEA Rate and Labor Survey provides valuable benchmarking data on shop and labor rates, employee compensation and benefits, and business outlook trends. New for 2026, shop and labor rate data is organized first by region and then by aircraft type, giving participants a more meaningful and accurate comparison of their business to others performing similar work. This enhanced reporting structure recognizes that operating costs, labor requirements, and market conditions can vary significantly across aircraft categories, resulting in fairer and more actionable benchmarking data.

The report's quick-glance format makes it easy for owners and managers of approved maintenance organizations to evaluate their position within the marketplace, identify compensation trends, and assess competitiveness. Whether your goal is attracting and retaining skilled technicians, reviewing labor rates, or strengthening your overall business strategy, this survey provides valuable insights to support informed decision-making.
