Lee's Summit Senior Community

City Council held a public hearing to consider a Preliminary Development Plan and Special Use Permit for Lee's Summit Senior Community at 5101 NE Lakewood Way. The proposed development for a continuum of care would be on 16.95 acres, composed of 72 beds and 119 dwelling units. The applicant requested a 40-year Special Use Permit to operate the facility.

The applicant conducted several neighborhood meetings and incorporated resident feedback into the proposal. Revisions included relocating the trash enclosure and generator/transformer to address concerns raised by nearby property owners.

Following extensive discussion and review, the City Council voted not to advance the Preliminary Development Plan and Special Use Permit to a second reading.

Communications Strategy Findings

City Council received a presentation on the City's Communications Strategic Plan, a six-month effort designed to strengthen communication with residents, businesses, employees, and community partners. The plan focuses on delivering clear, consistent, and timely information about City services, programs, and priorities while improving coordination across departments.

As part of the plan, the City's Creative Services Department will be renamed the Department of Communications and Public Information (CPI), reflecting an expanded focus on strategic communication, public engagement, and organizational alignment. Developed through stakeholder interviews, communications audits, benchmarking, and an evaluation of current communication practices, the plan provides a framework for transitioning the department from a primarily reactive production role to a more proactive and strategic communications function.

The primary goal of the plan is to ensure the City can communicate effectively and consistently as the community continues to grow, helping residents stay informed and connected to City services, projects, and initiatives.
