We will be starting a new Zoom Adult Forum in January by reading the book "In My Grandmother's House" by African American Womanist Theologian and Dean of the Howard University Divinity School, Dr. Yolanda Pierce. This book explores the wisdom of our grandmother's and their importance in our faith development and growth. This is also an important introduction to Womanist Theology. You do not have to attend all of the sessions to participate. The study will be led by the pastor, and we hope to invite a guest to discuss issues related to the book. LENTEN MISSION PROJECT

The Pastor would like to challenge members of the church to donate to individuals who have been affected by natural disasters and other catastrophes. When people are forced to abruptly leave their homes because of emergencies, they may not have time to pack the things they use on a daily basis like toothbrushes or soap. But after a few days without these items, they definitely miss them. Your hygiene kits offer a refreshing daily boost for someone when supplies are hard to come by.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • One 1-gallon Ziploc bag …
  • One hand towel measuring 15"x28" to 16"x32" (No fingertip, bath, dish, or micro-fiber towels.) …
  • One washcloth …
  • One wide-tooth comb removed from the package (Found at discount dealers like sallybeauty.com. Search for wide tooth pastel comb to see example) • Must be sturdy with at least 6” of teeth • No pocket combs or picks • Rattail and combs without handles are acceptable …
  • One fingernail or toenail clipper (Either one is acceptable. Remove from packaging.) …
  • One bath-size bar of soap in the original package …
  • One toothbrush in the original package …
  • Ten standard size Band-Aids

All items must fit inside the Ziploc bag. Remove the excess air from the bag and seal before boxing. Do not add any extra items or toothpaste. A tube of extended expiration date toothpaste will be added to each hygiene kit just prior to its journey.

The pastor will be collecting these items through Easter to be assembled in early to mid-April by church members.

This is sponsored by the pastor and Church World Service.
