A Message from the President

President Jim Morton

Dear Sea Devil Community,

At Cape Fear Community College, our students are at the heart of everything we do. Their aspirations, dedication, and diverse backgrounds drive our mission to provide exceptional education and support. Each student's journey is unique, and we are committed to creating opportunities that cultivate their potential and help them achieve their dreams. Whether pursuing a degree, learning a new skill, or preparing for a new career, our current and future students inspire us to continually improve and innovate, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities needed for success.

We proudly announce a new articulation agreement with Appalachian State University (ASU), enhancing our students' educational pathways. This agreement offers direct admission, academic support, and financial benefits as part of the Aspire Appalachian Program. Students will have access to academic advising, admission counseling, a dedicated advisor, financial aid planning, priority consideration for Appalachian Excellence Scholarships, and invitations to special events and webinars. This collaboration with ASU provides our students the support and resources they need to achieve their educational and career goals.

In today’s dynamic job market, CFCC is expanding its apprenticeship programs to include white-collar careers in information technology, accounting, healthcare, and early childhood education. These apprenticeships provide a win-win situation for both our students and local employers. Students gain invaluable hands-on experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application while also earning a wage, which helps reduce their financial burden. For employers, apprenticeships offer a strategic advantage by developing a skilled and loyal workforce, leading to higher retention rates. CFCC is steadfast in our commitment to championing and growing these programs, recognizing their pivotal role in workforce development and our collective success.

We are excited to offer the Summer Career Academy for the third consecutive year. This two-week immersive program is specifically tailored for rising seventh, eighth, and ninth graders attending Burgaw, Holly Shelter, West Pender, and Williston Middle Schools, providing them with a deeper understanding of and hands-on experience in various career fields. Thanks to the generous support of the North Carolina legislature, led by Senator Michael Lee, CFCC offers this program free of charge to all participants. Each student receives transportation to and from our campuses, lunch, snacks, a t-shirt, and school supplies for the upcoming school year. Students have the opportunity to explore fields such as nursing, dental hygiene, electrical work, barbering, nail technology, radiography, lineworking, truck driving, public safety, phlebotomy, diesel mechanics, small and outboard engines, occupational therapy assistance, aviation, drones, and more. We are thrilled to provide these young students with valuable experiences and insights into potential career paths.

As Cape Fear Community College continues to grow and innovate, we remain dedicated to providing the best educational opportunities, resources, and support to help every student succeed. Whether through new partnerships, expanded programs, or immersive experiences like the Summer Career Academy, we are here to guide and inspire our students every step of the way. Thank you for being part of our community and supporting our mission to empower the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators.
